My F10 goes back in a few months and what a great car that was, I enjoyed every minute and it's the one car I always looked forward to getting into.

I have however now decided due to the need to have a change and also be able to carry my dog around to buy the following........da da daaaaaaaa drum roll.........

An X5 M50d wobble

I'm really happy with the prospect of having this in the drive. I love the X5, the X5M is just too much car for everyday use for me and I'll still retain some power even if it's on the dark side of the internal combustion engine wink

Spec as follows:

Black Sapphire or Space Grey
20” wheels 468M
Black Dakota leather
M Sport
Enhanced Bluetooth
Head-up display
Loudspeaker Harman/Kardan
Sun protection glass
Adaptive lights/High beam assist
Multi-function instrument panel
Reverse assist camera/surround view
Speed Limit display
Comfort Access
5 year servicing

My dealer is already offering a very good deal (I have purchased 5 cars over the last 3 years, I think that helps!) but I'll push for more wink

I read this is very worthy of an M badge........some think the M135 is though and whilst it makes no difference to it will be interesting reading the reactions of the PH M Massive smile

Coast2Coast are offering about £13k off the list price for your spec, make sure you manage at least that
That's interesting and I'll certainly have a look, thanks thumbup

Not a car I'd choose, but I really dislike the driving position in 4X4s.

I've heard that it is a pretty rapid machine and drives very well (for a 4X4). Not quite sure why you'd choose the M50d over a full fat X5M, I bet in the real world you get nowhere near the official 42.8mpg of the X50d and you still have to put up with smelly fuel and the pollution it creates. You'd probably get an even bigger discount on the X5M too. smile
Because I'm trying to get away form a car that always wants to head-butt the horizon.

However I get where you're coming from yes

In which case you'll kick yourself when you realise you've missed out on the 2 series Active Tourer.
Sure will laugh

Sounds great, lovely spec however I think I'd have sprung for the nappa leather as Dakota is a bit cheap for a car at this price level.

I agree but have to go without something to have something else!

Swapped my M5 for a x5M50 in December as a daily driver, which has been a great decision. The was my first 4x4 purchase, looking for a more chilled way to get around day to day.
I was all set on a X5M, but after extended test drive I didn"t really gel with it. Immense speed, but too fast for a truck, mighty engineering, but a bit one trick.... When you were on it, great, but when wanted to smooch around, too compromised.
Not expecting to like it, but dealer also had a X5m50 to try and I loved it out the box. Away from the lights so quick and in normal daily driving an unbelievably relaxing way to get around. For 95% of the time it is a better DD than the M5. I.e. You can use all of the torque all of the time with zero traction issues regardless of weather, greasy roads, cold tyres, etc....
However, if you don't also have access to a weekend toy, then very occasionally you may miss the absolute outright performance of the M5, but then there are always compromises.
Deal wise I factory ordered and received £12,500 discount including c£5k extras. Essentials for me being comfort seats, HK, reverse camera, 20 inch wheels, HUD. I suggest you push for extended test drive. Deal for deal the X5M was going to be an extra £28k. Not worth it Imo. For me X5M50 better all round package. Also averaging 29mpg 4K into ownership round the doors against 15.8mpg on the x5m (granted over only 115 miles).
That's interesting, glad you like yours and I'm sure I'll feel the same.

I've got a weekend loaner from BMW when I get back in the country early May although I'm a big fan of BMW, have had 3 X5s and I'm sure it's going to be brilliant.

@hajaba123, Coast2Coast have made my dealers offer look frankly silly and unfortunately my existing dealer will have to drop the cost quite a lot more to get anywhere near coast2coast, thanks for the mention thumbup

Will you not miss the M5 a lot? Big saloons can still be fun when you just want to go for a blast but can't see the same with an X5.
I can't remember the last time I went for a blast in the M5, there's too many cameras and coppers around!

Will I miss the M5, of course it's a brilliant car but for the moment I've got that out of my system (and I also have a dog who I want to be able to go on walks with!)

I can see why you`ve gone for x5m50d, I went from m5 to the current RR Sport. Ok so it doesn`t thrill me but it`s a great all rounder family car

Love to know the deal you`re getting. PM if you like

I`ve just been emailed a deal on these on contract hire. £549 +VAT on a 9x23 profile. Still £20k over the term though

I had one for 5-6 weeks while I was awaiting for my replacement F10 M5 to be built. Was a cracking car & I can see the attraction. Only negatives I spotted were the build quality appeared suspect, however it was a BMW UK car so could have had a tough life over its first few thousand miles. Also the MPG was wildly adrift from the Mfctrs suggested figures. On a run I was only getting 5mpg more than the M5 so wasn't enough to make me think it was ground breaking, however the straight line speed induced many giggles & shocked many people.

That said, the brakes didn't match the straight line speed & it's cornering abilities were sadly lacking. Overall 6 1/2 out of 10 but if needed the extra room perhaps an 8 out of 10.

Agree with above that make sure it's debadged as X5M50D does look kind of funny.
So it could do with better rotors and pads?

Debadged almost certainly yes

Great news! Chuck a fiver in an air ambulance collection tin if you're stuck for what to do with the saving :-)

One quick question.

I've spec'd the multi-function instrument panel.

Has anyone actually had one and is it worth it?

Was going to get it but after trying thought very gimmicky and irritating... Much prefer the standard dials which are the same as the M5.

Oh and the brakes are fine, just have to remember it weighs almost 2.3T. I never thought the M5 brakes up to much anyway and at least the X5's don't squeal all of the time like an old bus.

Forgot to add multifunction front seats a must, absolute different league of comfort imo. Same as M5 multifunction, but for some reason at a cheaper upgrade cost in the X5

Hmmmm, wondered if they are too gimmicky......now not sure what to do, but have plenty of time to change my mind smile

The only upgrade for the 50d is comfort seats.

Thanks to your input I had two dealers fighting for my business today and aside from the massive amount I saved using Coast2Coast I then saved a further £2500 at 5:30 this evening when they continued to fight for the deal.

I owe you a drink Sir beer thanks thumbup

I curse this forum!
Was all set on a fairly obvious path to a new C63s or a RS6 when my C63 estate goes back in June
After this read I went to the dealer and saw an X5M, and have now spent last hour wathcing youtube videos of it. Have to say, really growing on me !!!
I really like the X5M but it's not the right move for me currently, my M5 is as fast and probably a better drive (and more fuel efficient!)

However interior looks bloody georgeous yes

Don't forget I got nearly 22% off my new car so there are deals to be done......

Bit of bad news I'm afraid............

I've just cancelled my order frown

However............

It's being placed again in a week or so which will mean I get the 2017 X5 which now comes with touchscreen gesture sat nav as standard just like the new 7 series.

This was suggested by my dealer who kind of guessed I'd be a tiny bit pissed off if my car was delivered in the knowledge the spec changed 1 week or so after they started the process.

Other changes are as follows:

There's a pack to include:

HUD
Sun protection glass
20" wheels
Speed limit
Harmon Kardon

All of which I have spec'd and it's cheaper than buying as individual options

Enhanced bluetooth no longer exists and you get wireless charging (should your phone support it) and built in wifi hotspot.

So not all bad news wink

Apparently the revised sat nav is being rolled out across all models shortly.
