You're gonna love my new M.....
Discussion
Now THIS is a what you call a REAL M car
It's big, heavy and somewhat lacking in true 'feel'....so about typical for a modern day M eh!
I had ordered a new X6 M50d to replace the RS4 that we had for about 47 minutes (but wifey-to-be didn't like, barmy little madam ). To be honest we both missed the ML63 we had last year so decided we were going back to a big SUV (just for the two of us lol) and I thought we'd go sensible and get a diesel. To get the kind of performance I wanted the choice was pretty much limited to.....a 50d of sorts or Cayenne S, but the Porsche was a different price point compared to the X6 with £15k discount!
I was getting palpitations about getting a diesel though, and it was a whole lotta money for something I didn't really want so I started looking at used X6 M's where the price wasn't that different to the new, but highly spec'd (and heavily discounted) 50d, at least not once I'd added £5k's worth of M Performance 21's and bodykit that I knew would be on the cards!
In the end I decided to get the full fat version and cancel the 50d - that went down well with the selling dealer considering I didn't buy the M from them, but I've ended up transferring my deposit to an M2, for delivery sometime before I die hopefully. I ended up buying an ex-demo for a smidge over £70k (inc 5yr service pack!), not bad given it was £103k+ 6 months ago. And I have no doubt it was worth about 57p once I'd signed the order form.
It's driving it that made my mind up. I know these cars are frequently chastised by real petrolheads - I mean, you can't really be into cars if you believe a performance-orientated car can be as high as an apartment (and similarly heavy) but I must say, having owned a ML63 AMG and a GLE63 AMG, and now after driving this X6 M, these cars really appeal to me. They're engineering powerhouses and their scope of abilities is mind-bogglingly good as road cars. They're nigh on as fast as anything I've driven bar my current R8, it handles almost totally flat, it's as practical as we'll ever need, the build quality is phenomenal and it's properly hushed at a cruise. Fuel economy aside, I struggle to think of a better genre of car that'll beat these day to day.
And this X6 M? Well, it's alarming to drive. This is a good thing
Spec is a little indulgent but then, what does it matter when somebody else has paid for this lot
21" M Double-spoke style 612M alloy wheel
M Multi-function front seats (truly AMAZING seats)
Front seat ventilation
Heated steering wheel
Comfort Access
Carbon fibre interior trim
Harman Kardon surround loudspeaker system
Internet etc
Heated rear seats
Soft close doors
Sun protection glass
Surround view
Speed limit display
Reversing assist camera
HUD (although this is standard on the M)

Ooooh, fellow M fans you have been kinder than I expected. Hang your heads in SHAME!
My missus, bless her, doesn't know what she's getting from one week to the next....she's used to it! I don't think I'll be changing my car for a while as I'm not sure there's anything I prefer to this new R8 (although it still feels kinda wrong liking a bloody Audi), so we've gone through a few options to find 'the one' for our daily. I suspect this X6 might also be quite hard to replace so it might stick around as long as the ML63 did....a good year
Oh....you won't be driving that 50d slowly anywhere

How long before you take a visit to the tuners/upholsterers/exhaust/??
I see dms are getting 730 Bhp plus from these...obviously the future missus isn't interested in such things!!
Moi? Spending money on 'stuff'? No idea where you get that idea from I can't see me doing much to this bar detailing it because as I said, it's already quite alarming to drive!I see dms are getting 730 Bhp plus from these...obviously the future missus isn't interested in such things!!

I hope, as it probably is no doubt, good to drive. That way you you spend more time inside, than outside. Looking at it!
The fact it's so, err, controversial, is much of the appeal to me. Totally get that an X5 is both more practical and probably better looking but we don't need that much space so may as well get some more 'character' instead!addsvrs said:
Oh and i love the colour
It's the first time I've seen Long Beach Blue in the wild on this car and in the sunlight at least, it looks tremendous. It definitely makes an already bold looking car, stand out!HoHoHo said:
I'm also not an X6 lover however I can definately see the appeal
I'm shortly moving from an F10 M5 to a fully, fully loaded new X5 M50d and I'm really looking forward to it. As great all of the M cars are I find myself always wanting to head-butt the horizon and I can't drive one slowly! I'm hoping the diesel (albeit the most powerful BMW have ever made) will turn me into a more mature driver I also need more space for my 5 children and dog!
I managed 21% discount off list on mine so whilst I'm not too fussed about residuals looking at used I'm already paying significantly less than a 6 month or even 12 month 50d with less options.
Anyway it looks great, it is a proper M with loads of growling attitude and I hope you enjoy it
Thanks buddy and yes, I saw your post, and your deal was also tremendous (I think we ended up with very similar specs and price lol). You need a big discount on these big BMW's to avoid financial suicide, which is a shame really and I actually think longer term the discounted 50d will perform better than my used M because the diesel is just so much more desirable on the used market. Nobody really wants a big petrol engined SUV.I'm shortly moving from an F10 M5 to a fully, fully loaded new X5 M50d and I'm really looking forward to it. The colour is tremendous and to bag a near £10k discount is a cracking deal.
Well done Sir!
Not quite because it wasn't actually up for sale at the £80k you see in the photo, at least not by the time I got to it. It was up at low £70k's, I got a couple of grand off and then it has that service pack which is most useful on an M!Well done Sir!

I just love the quad exhausts on these things. You just don't expect it on an this type of vehicle.
Shame it's not got Arragon Brown. That goes well with LBB.
I do like the brown a lot, and if buying new would probably spec that. But the Silverstone looks good and contrasts nicely with the LBB, although from experience I know it's a pig to keep clean.Shame it's not got Arragon Brown. That goes well with LBB.
Picked the BEAST up today. It's the only way to describe a car of this size with such surreal capabilities This engine plus 4wd and the smoothness of the ZF 8-speeder makes for a mind-boggling drivetrain.
Love the colour, love the interior (which really is very indulgent and so, so well built) and the M Multifunction seats have to be some of the comfiest perches I've sat in (love the way the backrest pivots in the middle so you get tremendous shoulder support without having to sit upright).

You should all hang your heads in shame liking this! This was supposed to be a CONTROVERSIAL thread
As for the ambient lighting, well, now it gets a bit silly. There are three separate zones - the dash and door strips (where you see the blue), the doors (to light up the handles, armrest and pockets) and the footwells. Each of these can be set with their own colour of blue, amber or white so you can, if you so choose, have a white floor, an amber door and a blue dash. I never claimed the beast was a tasteful machine! My chosen combination was slightly more subtle - blue dash, white everywhere else. And I believe this very useful feature is in fact standard on the M!

Great colour inside and out! I rather like these too... though I'd probably go X5 M - maybe next month eh
Oh and congratulations on your upcoming wedding!
Next month indeed lol Oh and congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

Enjoy the day - it's awesome and I hope you and your wife-to-be have a wonderful time! It's not game over in my book, it's a new chapter, especially if you've been together ages it confirms what you already know
As for me, I'm still in the 330d Touring as we now have a bouncing little 15 month old who keeps me entertained. I unfortunately came rather close the being no longer here last month though (story here) so I'm suddenly a little more short term on finances so have marked some maturing shares as an XKR/V8 Vantage Roadster fund...

Yep, I very much have the 'live for now' attitude (as if you couldn't guess) and an XKR/V8V would add some more candy to the local area Get it done - IMO, 'XKR' for the better car, Aston for the cooler/better brand. The latter are amazing value and bought right, probably a free car. Unlike my free falling beast

Palmball - how are you enjoying the car?
Impressive. Very fast, refined, well made and it really does feel a special place. Done a couple of trips down to the big smoke and on a normal motorway run it seems it can even do mid-20mpg's. It's interesting to compare with the GLE63 AMG we had for 5 mins last year (and the ML63 AMG we had for about a year before that); it's close between these cars. The Merc's are more comfortable (way better driving position in the Merc and they ride better on their air suspension) and have nicer steering. Obviously the Merc's also sound much much better. But this X6 counters with a more direct feel, more modern design (especially the interior), it has better seats and a significantly better transmission. Neither are 100% perfect but then both offer a range of abilities that's mind blowing compared to regular cars.
