Is it the one from Salisbury? If so, great spec car.
No - it's from BMW in Blackpool. It may still be on Autotrader but is gone from BMW website. Will check when I get back from LeMans - woo hoo.
Sad to see the e55k go, but it's time....
Second m5 after an e39 - big shoes to fill !!
I think the e55k was more progressive due to the supercharger. There was absolutely no delay in picking up the power. Kick down was the only slow part of the transmission for me. I also think that the stated output of 479bhp was substantially less than the reality (sl55k had 510bhp with the exact same engine set up). Someone once said, the only thing it couldn't pass was a petrol station!
That said, the delay in the m5 is driver dependent (based on settings). If you are in Eco mode, then there is a lag as gear shift and throttle response are wound down, I have the m1 button as a half way house, and m2 is full on attack. So you have to select what you think you will need on the steering wheel. The e55k had a more basic version of this (comfort, sport, manual) but the power was always at your finger tips.
Starting to really get to grips with the m5 now, and it feels absolutely mighty when underway. The question will be whether it is regarded as one of the greats in the future (sound of can of worms opening) but for me there is no doubt on the 55k engine that Mercedes produced in the early 2000's is right up there.
Different, yes, like an e46 m3 to an e92, but like the m3 and the e39, I'm glad I owned it. And I am currently very glad I have the f10 m5 too.
