Boring topic I know...but thought I had to share after reading a buying guide in EVO re the V10 M6. They said expect 15mpg normally with 20 on a run.
I've recently been to N Wales for the weekend and took the (E39) M5; 4 up with luggage for the weekend. 80 leptons cruise on the motorway and some relatively spirited driving round some Welsh A roads gave me 30.6mpg. I was chuffed with this figure as mooching round Manchester usually gives me 15mpg, similar to the M6.
The car is standard except for a muffler delete, is the M6 really 10 mpg worse on a run than the M5? I know it's more powerful and has 2 more cylinders but it still surprised me as BMW engines are usually pretty efficient.
Anyone got real life evidence to agree/disagree with EVO on this and what's the best you've had out of your M5?
