As above, think I've finally cracked a spring.

What's the general opinion on replacements?

Turns out on lifting the car up, it was the rear chassis bushes.

All done - tracking checked and drives great.

Still not suffered the curse of the springs.

Chassis bushes? Are you referring to the subframe bushes?
Yes - the big ones.

I should add that only the drivers side was really knackered. I went over (through) a big pot hole in Aldenham and the noise started, lifted the car and it'd pretty much been smashed. The rubber or polymer was incredibly brittle I guess due to age. Replaced both sides and it feels tighter than it has since I bought it.
