F10 M5 Used Buying Tips (Dealer)

Apologies to all of you that have faced this kind of query a billion times, I'm a newbie to buying cars, let along top class models.
I'm looking at 2013 M5's with around 30-40k on the clock from a dealership.
I guess tyres and brakes will be the big running hit (apart from fuel obv). Given the mileage, do I need to worry about getting these changed before parting with my cash? Is there something Is there anything on these I should be paying close attention to?
Any help whatsoever (and anybother buying tips) gratefully received. I need all the help I can get! 😀

I had one from new and ran it for 32000 miles over 3 years.
I had new read pads at 20,000 and it was due to have new fronts at around 36000, I also suspect the tears wouldn't be far behind. I did drive it hard and I know some have done better than I did and disks lasted longer, that said they have also been known to have been changed much sooner. Tyres are what they are and is accept nothing less than at least 6mm on all four. I've found the fronts last a long time, the rears have 560bhp going through them and can wear extremely quickly
I had no other issues at all, minor servicing was really cheap, mine used no oil although it went before the next service due and I can't speak for a major or any belts etc.
I had a Silverstone II car with Sakhir interior and lived the combo, I though it looked the nuts My only frustration was the steri no wheel (it was an LCI car) which looked shined and old in my opinion before it's time. Had I kept the car I would have had it refurbished for sure. I really looked after it, enjoyed every single mile and it looked as good went it went back as the day I picked it up.
Absolutely epic cars and a machine which will help you lose your license in a matter of seconds if your not careful

Minor services for this type of car are cheap, I paid no more than a couple of hundred for an oil etc. (and I took my own oil which reduced costs).
The rear pads service was around £900 all in to include whatever else they did at the time.
I moved to a new 50D X5, unfortunately no F11 M5 is available and I'm not paying the money wanted for an X5M!

What are your thoughts on the "its power is a waste on the UK roads" arguement? Surely this is true of any "fast" car?!
FAOD I'm keen on the having a licence, my freedom and indeed a fully-functioning body so dont intend to drive like a complete muppet!

I wouldn't suggest it's a waste of power, you'll simply need to use the power respectfully. It's much, much quicker than any car I've ever owned to include a 996 and 997. It's a car that takes under 8 seconds to 100mph which is quick in anyone's books and it can catch you unaware as I found out about 150m from a junction I had just left at 94mph which cost me 3 points and a fine. The polite policewoman was rather surprised just how quickly the car picked up speed! I never got bored of the power and frankly I wasn't bothered it was a twin turbo rather than a NA engine, I thought that punch in the back was bloody lovely What are your thoughts on the "its power is a waste on the UK roads" arguement? I had winter tyres which i had from BMW whilst I appreciate aren't everyone's cup of tea in ste weather they gave me more confidence to drive the car enthusiastically. Whilst I consider myself to be a fair driver I'm no driving god and any assistance I could get I would take I didn't use winters on the last winter I had the car simply because in 2015/2016 we had such a mild winter here in the SE and the car was fine. The car will still be fine on normal rubber but won't be going anywhere should it snow (as with any BMW!). As it happens I didn't have an opportunity to drive in snow so can't comment of the winters would have helped but I'm confident they would have made the car usable rather than parked.
It's really easy to have the traction light on past 100mph and even in the dry on a nice day, be a hooligan and the dash will let you know you look a tt. My X5 probably gets away better at lights on a wet day but the M5 would soon be whooshing past the X5 once it's found grip. It's all about feathering the throttle and not stamping on it and I would suggest that's in all conditions.
I had the optional 20" wheels initially with Pirelli rubber which I changed to Michelin as soon as I could. On a summers day or any day where the temperature is reasonable the grip is outstanding. That said, my wife always commented not on the acceleration but how well it stopped. I have (on a private road of course) stopped from 100mph but planting my foot on the brakes and it's quite impressive to the point of laughter

I traded my 997 a few years ago and have no desire to have another Porsche, I'm lucky enough to have had two new and one used, great cars but they and the dealers attitude are a bit meh for me now.
Other cars I've had have come and gone and some hold good memories, some I think.....why oh why did I buy that (335i very for example!). The X5 4.8iS was pretty cool (an M of sorts I guess) but that was mainly down to the great noise the V8 made. My 535D was also a cracking car and really good mile muncher.
The M5 was a great, great car. I took it on a couple of good European holidays and to Le Mans where it showed a few other cars what a super saloon could do along the way I loved taking it on Euro roads but sadly I never got into Germany I was always amazed how much positive attention it attracted in Europe, far more than my Porsches ever did for example. I would be stopped in almost every petrol station by young and older drivers who had an interest. I guess they just don't see the M5 very often?
I would suggest when I see one it's the only car I look at on the road and dream of the days I had the same. As I mentioned, had BMW produced a current M5 estate I would have had one without doubt. I've got a dog and the saloon is not practical which was the main reason for the X5.
If you get one, you'll not be disappointed that's for sure

I will echo HoHoHo's comments above and say it's the only car I have ever missed. I had a 13 plate car for nearly three years and instead of just getting another one, I got an F80 M3 as a replacement. Big mistake. It lasted just about a year and I got rid of it for another F10 M5. Amazing all round car that has no equal in my view.

I might have a friend with a suitable car he's owned from new that might be sold soon. He's a very fastidious owner with a history of M powered cars which only see the main dealer for work & he doesn't use it all year round as he has alternative transport for when the weathers bad.I'm looking at 2013 M5's with around 30-40k on the clock from a dealership.

I'm 48k miles into mine at 21 months old and can only really echo HoHoHo's comments - it's an incredible everyday machine and I intend to keep mine for a while.
They really do seem to be revered on the continent - I noticed that too - people coming over for a chat at petrol stations in Belgium and Germany. If you ever get a chance to drive one (ideally derestricted) on an autobahn it's something else.
I think with the F10 BMW have managed to encroach on Alpina's turf by producing something still very suited to effortless wafting whilst possessing a still raw edge at the upper end of the power band. It's also completely differenty engineered from a drivetrain, suspension and steering point of view from regular F10's so can't simply be compared to a 535d with a more powerful engine.
I had a spinal operation early last year and it's a real testament to the comfort and refinement of the car that I can still spend extended periods of time in it. A moment which kind of sums up the car for me, is when I out-dragged a GTR on the Belgian motorway, 4-up with a ton of suitcases in the boot and two of my passengers sleeping... and also stopping for a session on the ring on my way back from a business conference in Berlin, with a suit hanging in the back window and a load of crap in the boot.
