Hi

After wasting time and money with a used pump (the aircon is working brilliantly) which has started making a whistling noise can anyone offer advice;

The original pump is off the car - is it possible to get this reconditioned?

Also, is the pump the same as any other Mazda cars so that I could look for a low mileage used one? (It seems odd to manufacture compressors which are model specific.

I know the sensible answer is to remove all the aircon gubbins and save some weight but I find it very useful for demisting.

I'll give BBA-Reman a try. Their depot turns out to be within walking distance of my home!

Sadly the people next door don't do compressors any more despite what their website says. As far as I know, the condenser is OK - the chap that fitted the replacement pump didn't comment. I'd be interested to know what Toyota one is compatible. My car is a 1.8 Eunos NA from 1995. Same dark green as yours by the look of it. I did hear that the clutch part of the pump is a separate assembly. MX5 Parts show it for £400 or something brand new! Anyway, I'll perservere with finding someone to recondition the unit which is in my boot for when the noise from the one under the bonnet becomes critical.

Quick question - can one get a shorter belt to reach the power steering pump on its own?

While I think of it, how do people convert to unassisted steering out of interest? (I admit that I like the light steering despite managing to overwhelm it doing the odd Auto Solo slalom!
