Probably a very stupid question really. I'm considering looking for Mk2.5 (preferably in dark green) as they seem relatively cheap for the amount of fun that can be had. But I am 6 foot 2 tall and I know MX-5s are fairly small. Any tall owners here that can tell me I'm either wasting my time or shouldn't give it a thought?

You'll differing answers, headroom shouldn't be a problem.
Long legs may mean you may not be comfy.
Thanks. I'm guessing you mean headroom shouldn't be a problem with the soft top up. smile That would be something.

Thanks. Only Jap coupe I tried was a 90s Celica and it was far smaller than I expected. I guess I just need to try one then. My legs aren't the longest.

I'm 6'2" - long body shorter legs. I fit a Mk1 just fine. A Mk2.5 will have deeper/taller seats which rob a bit more cabin space than earlier models but I was still comfortable enough in mine with the seat most of the way back and reclined almost as far as it would go. Fine for a trip to Scotland from the South without my back & legs seizing up.
Great, cheers. Time to go back to studying the buying guides then to find a good one to try out. smile

Where are you based? Could maybe find a good one locally to have a shot in so you have something to compare it to.
Really? I'm not far from Milton Keynes - halfway between there and Northampton.

I'm not a million miles away in St Neots. I should get mine back from the body shop by the end of this week. I'm sure we could sort something out
That would be very good of you. Yes, under an hour away I think. Feel free to PM me whenever convenient, cheers.

I did. I can just imagine the mess my seat would end up in if I tried that...

Sobering thoughts. Anyone would think you guys are trying to put me off... smile

Seriously, I take the last points on board, absolutely. All part of the "right" driving position. Any compromise and clearly it wouldn't be a good proposition. I like "fast" and "fun" but I do also appreciate "safe". Thanks.

Far from trying to put you off. IMO you are safer in an MX5 than a lot of cars people consider to be safe such as a lot of 4x4s which might have a stronger structure but are far more likely to end up sliding/spinning/rolling than an MX5. The inherant stbility of having 50/50(ish) weight distribution and low centre of gravity means that MX5s are pretty safe in most conditions as long as you have decent tyres, keep it well serviced and aren't driving like a tit smile
laugh Love it. Fair points well made smile

I think I might be developing a stoop from peering under the top of the widscreen clutter. I'm 6' and long in the body. And with the hardtop on and a crash helmet it wasn't comfortable at all. One day I might try to do something with the seat. I changed the steering wheel to take it away from my legs a bit.
I can imagine it must be cramped with a helmet. To be honest I think I'd struggle in my daily driver Accord if I had to wear a crash helmet! smile Not in my plans to go and do track days; just a general fun regular driver. smile Or did you mean without the hemet you have to peer under as well?

I'm 6'5" and 16 stone and have driven my OH's mk1 for three hours on the go.

It's _ok_ but I'm glad it's not my only car.

Can't wind the window easily while driving as my knee's in the way.
I'm a fair bit smaller thanks to illness - lost 2.5 stone in the last couple of years and 6 ft 2 and skinny now. So now or never, possibly! smile

Ta. What version do you have? A Mk 1 or 2 (or 3)?

I'm 6ft 2 and I fit in my mk1 with plenty of room. Didnt feel squashed in at all really. seat as far back as it went and a deep dish steering wheel and the driving position was perfect. The mk2's seem smaller inside for some reason. I've sat in a few and didnt really fit properly.
