So the general consensus is wait till the P5 ones are back in stock in Feb/March? frown I'm impatient, hehe

Yes he's got my info and I'm on the list smile I was just curious about the alternatives, but if the P5 kit is really a cut above the rest, I'll suffer my 4x4 ride height for another couple of months!

I think I'll wait for the Puredrive smile

I hate waiting though frown Tried to phone a bodyshop we know to get a quote on fixing the minor bodywork issues, and they're closed for Christmas now I think! Bah, I wanna spend some money on my car mad

wink

Definately. Lighter, very strong and have spherical bearings just like Nitron's http://www.ma5daracing.com/
Worth it for "fast road" use?

they haven't been on long enough to be able to report on the reliability.

I've only heard of 2 people in the country who have had a problem with P5 shocks.
This is more apt for the P5 shocks. P5 have probably sold 60 or so of this suspension, but all of a sudden it's better than Tein, Gaz, KYB and every other set up. It is still very early to judge, but early reports are that it is very good. I think it is reckless to claim that these shocks are better than all before when there is insufficient data to back up any claims. When the shocks have done 100k + without problems it can then be compared to the others that have more mileage.

Just my view

I had Bilstein then KYB and then P5 Protech, they are better than KYB & Bilstein without a shadow of a doubt. Better than Tein, I don't know certainly cheaper. GAZ I just read far to much of people buying them then saying how crap they were and telling others not to waste their money. Leaks, squeeks, adjusters giving different damping each side for the same "clicks" etc. Normally when people buy new stuff they say how pleased they are, GAZ seemed to have the opposite effect.
This is why I am 90% leaning towards just waiting. Feb/march isn't too long away I guess smile

Are the mk2 topmounts a "must"? How much are they?

They allow more travel which is beneficial on the mk1 as travel is limited to begin with, remember a mk2 is essentially the same car just tweeked, topmounts being a tweak. Good news is they are a fraction of the price of the original mk1 mounts, something like £10 each instead of £40 each.
That's cool then! P5 sell them?

Gah, I keep coming back to these http://www.mx5parts.co.uk/product_info.php/product... and having the alignment properly done at WIM and maybe the fitting or maybe fitting it myself.

Decisions, decisions...

If you do fit them yourself, at least get Tony to set up the car
Oh don't worry, that's the plan. I'll probably chicken out and get P5 to fit them or something, though

Lazza, Wokingham's not far, perhaps we should go for a hoon sometime and you can demonstrate the abilities of the PD setup (and that supercharger biggrin )!

Are the Gaz Gold Pro MX5 kits worth it for road use? I won't be tracking it any time soon, so it's a toss up between the Gaz (absolutely shocks) kit from MX5parts or Puredrive

Do I need any replacement top mounts if I go for the Gaz/Absolutely Shocks set from MX5parts?

Howard - if you are just using it on the road, my view is that the standard setup is hard to beat. I ran my cars for years on standard shocks/springs and only changed after my first season of competition.
I appreciate how good the standard setup is, but there's always room for improvement in my view. Mazda didn't work to an unlimited budget, else the cars would cost three times as much, and they would have compromised in order to get comfort - these aren't Elises or Caterhams remember.

I would basically like less bodyroll and stiffer, more "controlled" hard cornering and a lower ride height. If the Gaz/P5 kits do as advertised and make the sweet handling even sweeter without ruining the ride/dynamics/whatever, then I'm willing to pay for it smile

But with decent shocks, and a proper set up by Wheels In Motion, we can at least better it, for "performance" driving smile

My MX5 is a second 'fun' car, not a daily driver, I don't need refinement wink
