Talk some sense into me..!

I've been offered what I think is a good deal on a Jeep GC 4.7.
It's a 'V' reg, 80k on the clocks with 9 months ticket and taxed until January. It's been a company vehicle so has wanted for nothing, with immaculate service history, diff oil changed at the right times, it's cosmetically very clean, 4 good tyres on 1 year old Startech rims. Seems top spec (Limited?) with leather etc.
The seller is a long standing mate who's said he'd like about £1500-£1600 but if I want it he'll take £1000 for the benefit of an easy sale to avoid all the 'Lowest price M8' texts and associated hassle.
I'm currently doing my 12 mile daily commute in a V6 Vauxhall Omega which as the 6 mile journey is so short, it's returning about 23mpg. I do about 350 miles a month.
I'm not skint as such, but I've got young kids and so haven't got money to burn!
Is this V8 Jeep going to ruin me, or is it a case of MTFU, you only live once, and every man should own a V8 at some point in their lives
I should add, the OH has horses and we tow a horse box, and live in a rural(ish) location so a proper 4x4 really would have benefits.
