Looking to the forums for advice and experience of bringing a cat back from the USA.

Having been working in the US for over 2 years I've around 9 months until I come back. I've been using a Camaro SS as my daily... can't see me leaving it here when it gives so much joy. Therefore I'm keen to understand how export/import works. Luckily work will cover shipping costs (same for my sofa, only way way better!)

I know it will need to be modified for the UK. It's also been modified here slight and I don't quite know what the implications of that are either.

Any wisdom offered is greatly appreciated!

From memory if you can prove ownership there for 12+ months and you ship it here to the UK you will not be liable for import duty or VAT (unless you sell within 12 months), it's age will determine the registration process (under or over 10 years)
I'd heard similar but can't find anything definitive. It's just over 10 so I'd prefer an easier registration process. Also a bit worried about add ons and there impact on that

Here on the UK Gov.UK site...
https://www.gov.uk/guidance/transfer-of-residence-...

As your car is over 10 years old I think it will just need an MOT, this will of course require some lights changing/adding (orange rear indicators + rear fog light) it then I beleve can then be registered

Thanks Saleen836, I'd been looking at the import car pages and hadn't thought to check the residence change pages - make much more sense smile
