Morning

Looking at buying a new watch for around £1,500 as have a graduate job and no longer have a contract phone so thought may as well stick £50 a month towards something else.

Coming up with following options wondered if people had anything else to suggest? Will have to be new unfortunately as will probably 0% APR it as just spent £7k on a new daily and would prefer not to dip into my savings anymore...

http://www.goldsmiths.co.uk/TAG-Heuer-Aquaracer-Ca...

http://www.goldsmiths.co.uk/Raymond-Weil-Freelance...

Or something cheaper

http://www.goldsmiths.co.uk/Longines-Sport-HydroCo...

Not sure anything I am missing? Like something fairly chunky as I am 6 foot 3 and quite a wide frame so smaller watches tend to look a bit small on my wrists...

My friend has a Colt Chrono that he received on his 21st Birthday, 8 years on and it still looks brilliant.
Yeah really like the style of it asked for a quote as if the APR is a st rate I will probably be better off just buying one new at £2,200...

Already going over budget here!

After an hour you're 20% over budget, give it two and it'll be 45% hehe
Yes have a habit of this with most things...

It will be my first big purchase watch wise though most I have spent previously is in the £300 - £500 range on a Steinhart Ocean 1 and then a Raymond Weil 8300 so want to get it right!

At this budget Oris and Longines are a good bet if you want Swiss, Sinn and Damasko are good, if German is an option.

At that budget I'd only be considering automatics.
Yes just noticed the Brietling is only a quartz not sure how I feel with regards to whether I need it to be automatic or not.

This watch looks lovely for under £1k but appears to have a different box which puts me off a bit

well all those watches will loose you about £20 per month in the first year, but presumably your rich enough not to have to worry about loosing 40% of your investment in the first 12 months. If your not rich enough then perhaps a 3 to 5 YO Zenith might be a better investment and is certainly a huge improvement in the 3 watches you have chosen
I have been looking and the majority do seem to sink quite heavily...

Would something like this be a better option?

http://www.watchfinder.co.uk/Omega/Seamaster%20300...

I still get drawn to the Breitling Colt 44 but with the APR may as well buy one new at £2,200 at 0%

Suppose in 3 years time could probably flog it for around £12/300 if I got bored?

Not too fused about loosing a bit of money its all relative to me I blew about £120 on a night out at the weekend...

A friend sold his Omega PO for around £1500 earlier this month. It's a really nice watch and I was tempted but I already struggle to choose between two divers in the morning, let alone throwing a third into the mix!
Omega Planet Ocean would be a dream watch for me in the 45.5mm with the orange bezel however they appear to be around £2.5k which is too much for me even with man maths...

Are you sure they're that price 2nd hand? My mate is monumentally tight with money and it's the first "decent" watch he owned, so I highly doubt he would have let it go for below market value.
£1500 seems incredibly cheap would have snapped his hand off for that to be honest

A Tudor black bay (blue face) is a lovely watch and surely not much more than your budget....
Just had a look it is workable for me figures wise as can get it 0%

Up at £2,330 on Goldsmiths is this going to sink like a stone value wise?

Aware they are a sub-brand of Rolex? So not sure if they is an sort of re-sale market if I ever decided to flip in 5 years time

Look on ebay - you can see the prices there. I think they will hold their money well compared to most watches at this price point. I dont think you will make money unless you wait 20 years.
Not bothered about making money

If spent £2300 or whatever be nice to know in say 3 years time I could still get £14/1500 for it though!

You might well get that in 2 or 3 years, maybe a bit more, maybe a bit less. I dont believe it will drop like a stone.
Decided going £850 over a £1,500 budget is rather silly...

Think I am going to take a look at the Oris Aquis at the weekend as easily in budget and looks nice and chunky which I like.

My advice on Tudor would be to try before you buy... I was dead-set on a Pelagos and nearly bought one without trying it on and then went to Goldsmiths when they came to the UK officially. I really disliked it. I know it's all personal preference, but I was shocked how much I disliked it on the wrist compared with the online photos. This is not meant to appear rude to anyone who owns one, it just really wasn't my cup of tea!
Yes need to try a few nearest dealer that stocks one is Chester 60 miles away... Off out on the piss at mates weekend after this so will have a browse at a few then I think smile

Brought this recently and would certainly recommend. Tried a few Tags on (see there was a couple linked in a previous post) and the Link i found the most comfortable smile
Bit small for me...

Think have a top 4 after sleeping on it and realising I need to actually stay in budget

Sinn U1 SDR £1,360

Tag Heur Aquaracer Calibre 5 £1,240
http://www.swisswatchesdirect.co.uk/watch/wan2110....

Tag Heur Aquaracer Chronograph Quartz £1,350

Oris Acquis Divers £1,170

Opinions on the above?

Easy choice for me; the Sinn is well clear of the Oris which is also well clear of either TAG.

Bit biased as I own one Sinn and have owned another, however they are undoubtedly very well built watches.
I understand Sinn is possibly best made however I keep getting drawn to the Oris at the moment something about it. I kn ow it will depreciate heavily though whereas the Sinn seem to be better resale value.

Load of my mates have TAGs so will avoid them if I can...

Buy what ever you like ......but if you want value for your money then don't buy new

ps I blew £160 on a bottle of wine last weekend but I still don't want to buy a watch that drops 25% of it's value on day 2 of ownership
People have different views though £160 on what tastes like vinegar seems poor value to me.

Going to keep watch 3/4 years if I buy at £1k and sell at £500 or whatever still only £125 quid a year which is really fk all.

As said buying new rather buy on 0% instead of outright as whilst could easily afford to buy now I prefer to have a £5k cushion in my account and have just dropped £7k on the car buying a watch would take me under this which I don't feel comfortable with.

That C60 does look quite nice...

See they do one with an orange bezel as I mentioned earlier my dream watch would be an omega planet ocean and this does remind me of one which I like!

blue face seamaster for 1900 or black face for 2100 ..

Interestingly they are advertising the seamster 300m master co-axil which has just been released with an rrp of 4k, they are advertising it for 2920 that is a huge discount for a new omega.
Is that 41mm Blue Speedmaster a very good price at 2000 or is it me?
