I know this isn't a watch, but couldn't find a jewellery forum and fancied some more considered responses than I'd get in the lounge.

I was browsing Amazon for Black Friday deals and came across this ring from Amazon jewellers. ..

linky

A ridiculously impulsive buy but the deal looks awesome. My question is how good a deal actually is this? Is the ring worth the £3100 original price? Is buying from Amazon a stupid idea? Could I be totally ripped off?

There is really not enough information to know.

Diamonds are graded pretty comprehensively and there is a huge difference between a top grade and a lower grade stone. It is not clear if the 1 carat refers to the solitaire or includes the smaller diamonds. I would suggest a trip to a few jewellers and to learn a bit about diamond before taking the plunge.
That's the thing though, pretty sure this is a black Friday deal. So it's either take a risk and possibly get a great deal or do the normal thing and pay a lot more but do the proper research.

In my opinion as a jeweller id say it is at worst a fair deal. I wouldn't / couldn't produce an item like that for under £900 unless it was utter st quality. I'd be guessing the centre stone is circa 0.50 to 0.60ct and the shoulders circa 0.05ct each. The smalls are cheap as chips but to get s half decent 0.50 / 0.60 you need to be spending the total value on that stone alone...... or more!

You have to bear in mind this thought.: will she wear it with pride? And will you be proud to give her it? Nobody wants the embarrassment of realising its a bit of a turd, no matter how much the advertising says you 'saved'. Engagement rings are a sign of your commitment. Do your homework and get the best you can.
This is pretty much why I didn't go for it on the end. I felt a bit cheap!

Reckon I'll approach an independent jewellers at some point. Just checked your location and you're the other side of the country though.
