Hi all

Just returned back to my hotel after my first time at Basel. Wow! If you love watches this is a must do!
This is the new Yachtmaster. Available in 37mm or 40mm. Rose gold with ceramic bezel and rubber steel reinforced bracelet.
Here are some snaps.

The 2.4million dollar Patek Philippe. At least you get two sides to the watch!

An interesting design from Ulysee Nardin.

Cheers

Hello

As a Zenith owner it was one of the first stands I visited but there was little to see via their window display.

Here is a snap of my own one which is up for sale now...need to fund more watches for my new business!

Hi
I have been an enthusiast for over 30 years and still love watches and cars. I have built up a reasonable experience in that time on the main luxury Swiss brands and following a redundancy from RBS last year I decided to set up a small family Internet watch business specialising in pre owned watches.

The trip to Basel was magnificent. I went with another watch enthusiast who like me was happy walking around all day without any wife's or kids to distract us!

Go there in the knowledge that it will be window shopping in the main but high volume and high quality so you won't be disappointed. However go away from the big halls into some of the smaller ones and you will find the really exceptional watches ranging from a few thousand to well over a million euros. You are also likely to meet the owners of the brands who through my experience are very passionate and are happy to talk watches with you.

One brand I remember fondly was Louis Moinet. Such beautiful
Watches and great people.

Well you can probably tell from my enthusiastic writing that it is a must do. I was looking for new ideas, new suppliers etc for my business. Many of them do not have UK distributors but maybe that is something for next year.

All the best

Will the new Yachtmaster (rose gold and rubber bracelet) be the new trend watch like the Daytona?

That's a great question.

My experience to date is that despite in my view the Yachtmaster being a really great member of the sports range it tends to be a slow seller. The one as shown in my pictures is the new kid on the block and for those who want "whats new" then initially it should sell well. I have been offered some for stock but have not yet committed to buy as I wanted to get a gut feel from the enthusiasts across the various forums.

While it is attractive it is still a lot of money for most of us and for that budget (circa £16k) you can get a really nice pre-owned all gold Submariner, GMT Master, Day Date etc.

One of my grail watches is the rose gold Daytona with leather with either the ivory or chocolate dial. They have been quite popular here in the UK but don't sell so well in hotter countries as the leather strap can get quite sweaty. Instead the Daytona sells well with e gold bracelet.

So based on this a new look in precious metal, combining a ceramic dial and overcoming sweaty wrists problem by having rubber it could be a hit!

I might just order one, getting more enthusiastic as I write...perhaps it could be my demo watch!!!

Cheers
