Where to buy a used watch

Hi all
I am interested in buying a used TAG, and wanted to take a look at what is currently out there. I have found a few places selling used watches but have no indication of whether they are reliable/safe to buy from or not.
Chronext seem to have a decent range of used watches, as do Iconic watches, but being a relative watch newby I have no experience of good companies you can trust.
Would appreciate some pointers on who to buy from (or more importantly perhaps, who not to), and also thinking of perhaps buying directly from an individual via a forum or similar if anyone has ideas around that.

I just like the look and feel of the TAG's Ive tried before, and to be honest, with a price range up to about £800 I think I would be hard pressed to find the Breitling I really want. I was thinking of an Aquatimer or Professional for the money.
I was just thinking of a good midrange (in terms of price) watch that is better quality than the equivalent new watch for around £800, have I missed the mark here?
Edit: I feel a "what watch for £800" thread coming on, something I wanted to avoid because the range is vast. I really need to get a better understanding of quality marques as I want to become more educated in watches, as I simply follow the names I know currently. I do really like the look of some much cheaper watches, things by Casio even, but wanted something a bit more special that feels like a £1000 watch, but with the advantage of being a well looked after used example.

Some really good advice here, thanks, I have decided to bide my time a little (not sure how much time exactly, as I don't have a watch), work out what I really want, and make sure it is something worth the money.

I am a long way from that though, so was just looking to satisfy my new watch itch with something good quality, reasonably modern (as in up to about ten years old), and that has a strong name attached to it. TAG seemed to fit the bill, but I appreciate the different views, allows me to do some research and work out if I feel it's a good place to put what for me is quite a lot of money for a watch.
The Seiko is a good shout, Ive been looking at a few cheaper new watches, max of about £500, and there are some really nice ones around. They don't have that exclusive brand attached, but I suppose that isn't everything. In fact, my favourite ever watch, and one I wear all the time, is a cheapo Orient Mako, hardly an exclusive name, so perhaps I need to step back from the pose factor a little

I did some reading up on Maurice Lacroix, and the brand gets very mixed reviews, with some people believing they are starting to gain momentum as a serious brand, but others viewing them as simply a fashion accessory.
Taking a look at watchuseek as well, see if anything really catches my interest.

I wonder if it's the same manufacturer behind both brands, and they approach different markets with different brands.

It arrived today, and looks fantastic, but is really tricky to set up.
Not too major, but it does mean watching a couple YouTube vids since the instructions make no sense to me.
Nice size and weight, and has the feeling of quality about it, so for the money I'm really happy.
