Assuming I know the watches provenance, how much would a 2012 Rolex gold with black face and bezel gmt master 2 be worth. It without papers but has the original purchase receipt

The watch is from a friend and The price he has offered is substantially cheaper than I can find for ones with papers. Watch will be kept for a few years, not to resell. Just want to know if I'm buying at a fair price

I know for certain it's not stolen. He's just lost the papers. We insured when he bought it, he just has more watches than he needs.

It's a difficult one as it's a private sale. I would say about 2/3rds of the sticker price average of a few dealers. Maybe a touch less.
Edited to add - if I knew and trusted the seller and intend to keep the watch the lack of papers wouldn't bother me in the slightest.

That's pretty much what he's suggesting. So we are in the right ball park
