Investment Omega for £2k?
Discussion
I'm considering getting an Omega Seamaster or similar for around £2k, would this likely gain anything in value over the years? Or even lose value? (I'm planning on keeping it as a forever thing)
Does anyone have any other suggestions for around £2k? I don't want to buy and then in 6 months it to be worth half the price.
Thank you

If you're planning on keeping it forever, buy a watch you'll never tire of looking at regardless of its investment potential, or regardless of how much it'll be worth in 6 months time.
At this price level, sensible money goes on a pre-owned watch where the original owner took the biggest hit on depreciation, and then just enjoy the search.
Sensible advice, makes sense. I just wanted to make sure that a Seamaster isn't considered a bad choice. At this price level, sensible money goes on a pre-owned watch where the original owner took the biggest hit on depreciation, and then just enjoy the search.
As I said above, I think I'm going to opt for a Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch, maybe a pre-owned one.
Where is good to find one? I'm aware of chrono24 (and could get it cheaper from the USA or Europe) but was wondering if there is anywhere else that's good for pre-owned or even discounted new?
Are there any negatives associated with buying from a non uk seller/ dealer?
Budget will be around £2200.
Thank you.

My suggestion - Speedmaster Pro 311.30.42.30.01.005
This explains it all and more: http://www.fratellowatches.com/speedy-tuesday-inco...
Stretch the budget to £2650 and buy new with the big presentation box, tools and books. I recently bought mine from Iconic, but Dom Hackett also has stock at this price.
Wearable daily, and won't loose too much as it'll always be an iconic design with the heritage that sets it apart.
Stay away from the London boutiques for pre-owned as the buy / sell split will always gap you.
That's exactly what I was going to go for, I may even save up for a bit longer and get it, lovely looking watch. This explains it all and more: http://www.fratellowatches.com/speedy-tuesday-inco...

Funnily enough I'm about to buy a new 116334 Rolex which will replace my Omega:
It's an Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra chrono 2812.30.37 42mm. Supplied new by Ernest Jones in June 2007.
It had a full service at the Omega UK service centre (invoice included) in June 2012. It has the correct original Omega boxes, warranty/COSC cards and swing tag.
I've just had Omega on Bond Street replace the calf-strap with a brand new identical one, they also checked it over and given it a clean bill of health.
Make me an offer if you fancy it.

I decided on a Speedmaster Professional "Moonwatch", I picked it up on eBay for a good price.
I was surprised at the size of the box.
In the box is the watch (obviously), a Speedmaster paperweight (very useful I'm sure), a NATO strap, a velcro strap which is apparently the same as worn on a spacesuit with a NASA part number, a thing for changing/ adjusting the strap (looks sharp so not sure I'll be using it), a magnifying thingy and a book explaining the history of the watch and the certification process.
I'm really pleased with it

What seller did you pick it up from? I'm looking at these myself hence the question. If you don't mind can you share what you paid?
I got it from a seller called Status Timepieces for a little over £2.5k, they're a broker so delivery for me was around a week after purchase.Gassing Station | Watches | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
