First time Rolex Buyer...

Hi All,

So I am collecting my first ever Rolex (first ever 'proper' Swiss watch as a matter of fact) this Friday, in typical fashion I want to try and squeeze every last penny of benefit out of the deal I can!

My questions to all you seasoned watch buyers, can I expect to receive any specific accessories with my watch? Is there anything I should specifically ask for when I collect the piece? Or just anything I should ask/look out for when collecting.

It is actually the Ceramic Daytona I have purchased (White Face), anyone got a free travel pouch/polishing cloths or anything along them lines with theirs?

Yes it's nice when you get freebies, a recent PAM00512 purchase got me coffee, which I really liked so they gave me a packet of it, an AD service/ carry pouch, a watch branded travel case and 13% discount. I didn't expect any of it and why should anyone?

I guess it's this new world of self entitlement we live in.

LOL, calm down - I'ts not 'self entitlement' it's just trying to make sure I get the most out of a deal, even if it does mean a few crappy freebies.

Thanks for all the responses, the collecting experience was quite straight forward, pleasant enough staff but no frills, as for the watch itself, the thoughts of flipping it went right out of the window as soon as I collected it!

Thanks since about late May, I really didn't expect the lead time be this short, but luckily I built up a good rapport with the my AD as I was a regular in the store for a while before contemplating which watch I should buy. I think out of all the countries Switzerland seems to have most reasonable waiting times (understandably) some of the UK AD's were quoting 10-15 years!

Thanks positive vibes I've deliberated but i'm deciding to keep it, A lot of people telling me to flip it for some easy money, the logic behind the choice -

A) If i trade the watch in to a dealer (safest and easiest option) I would get around 2k less than market value, although this still makes for a decent mark up on my investment, its nothing life changing.

B) What would I replace the Daytona with if I did get rid? The two models that will retain their value the best would be the GMT Master 2 BLNR or the Hulk Sub, neither of them I'm keen on especially after having the Daytona in my hands.

If I did flip my Ceramic Daytona and bought something I liked, I.e. Gold Daytona with leather strap (retailing used for a similar price I can get for my Ceramic Steel) then I would still stand to lose some money on that (reducing my overall benefit further).

C) If I hoped to make a quick buck on this one and buy another Steel Ceramic Daytona I'm likely to be in for a long wait, I don't really want to be waiting a couple of years for another Daytona.

You know this is a car forum, yet you have only posted here about finding your ceramic Daytona? So it's hardly an unlikely supposition.

No, will be keeping it, only thing I would want to sell for is a gold AP RO/O or an all yellow gold sub, which are in another price league (even if I sell my Daytona at a profit). I think it's a great first entry into the world of premium watches, good investment, robust materials and can be worn with casual clothes or a suit, just a few reasons why I've decided to keep.

That white dial Daytona is lovely, congrats.

I'm disappointed you'd go for a yellow gold Sub though. The WG blue smurf one is the one I'd cream allover and has none of that nouveau riche feel to it or better yet the Pepsi WG GMT.

Haha I do see where you're coming from a lot of people think it's tacky, however I think it would be cool to have a piece like that, that's just a bit crazy to wear every now and again or on special occasions. I'm sure by the time (if and when) I'm ready to pull the trigger I will have perhaps grown out of that thought process, but for now it seems like a great piece to aim for next.

Yes - you don't need a winder. If you are wearing the watch every day it will remain wound. Even if it does run out of steam it's not like it has a calendar complication that needs resetting.

Btw I think the original free winder may have been tongue in cheek.

It's still new and precious lol so I'm only wearing it on weekends at the moment, so may just get a winder for now. I had a feeling after it was a joke too, but you can never be too sure

Very nice! it must be an occasion every-time you wear the watch, you will have to keep us updating on what its like living with an all gold Roley.

Does it get positive or negative attention when you go out, what kind of things do people say?

Also I imagine its a nightmare to maintain, which gold being such a soft metal and scratching so easily.
