I like Rolex, I have an SDc4000, I've had quite a few from Daytonas to DS' and the wife has a DJ and a new 177200BLRO, but I've always hated the hype that goes with them. They're great, but not the 'best', they hold value like no others and are solid, timeless and dependable. Wonderful things. I love the diving heritage, partially as I'm a Subsea Engineer who knows a lot of people who had original Comex issued.

But. As the popularity grows, the stocks are limited, the price hits stratospheric levels for a SS watch and 'everyone' has to have them, I'm losing that love. I think the 'new' SS Daytona was a turning point - it's beyond 'Emperor's new clothes' for me. £15k for a ceramic bezel and new coloured face? Have a bloody word with yourself! smile

But, with the Tudor Bronzo, the Heritage models, the BB Dark and the new LHD Titanium Pelagos with red accent I'm seeing them as a real style contender for the future trading on both heritage, quality and some really funky design turns!

My new Bronzo has, in 1 week, garnered more +ve comments than all of my historical Rolexes put together!

Anyone feel similar or disagree?

P.S. I think my 1st para shows i'm not creating a new 'knock Rolex' thread!!

Yeah, I see what maybe Rolex are doing to preserve their exclusivity, it also has the knock-on effect of bringing Tudor with it, which is fine.

The one for me that is finished is Omega. I'm a big fan, but their pricing is at joke levels now. They had a perfect place in the market, but tried to price match Rolex, and I think that was a mistake that opened the door for Tudor and others to step right in with some great designs...

Didn't see that one coming
Lovely, isn't it?

I'm thinking of one of the last of these though, 'new' old stock:

Errrr, yeah it is, I'm not sure how much they are trying to wind people up with the red writing and limited numbers but it also has red numerals on the date wheel and the markers are darker than the regular one (which look nicer)

I do fancy the Black Bay Black with ETA movement but I have to stop with watches now!

And a left crown would drive me mental as I'm one of "those"

smile 'one of those' biglaugh

Just realised that I posted a pic of the new version, my local AD has the ETA movement version of the red bezel for £2,400

It's not limited numbers is it, just numbered?
You're quite right!

What is the point of numbering if something isn't Ltd?

Surely it's only the same as having a visible serial number?

What am I missing?
Look at the size of the text, though. How will they fit more than 3 characters without reducing font size? I reckon this will be Ltd.

£2,400 for a new ETA red bezel version on a strap? Wow, they're going up in price already! I managed a discount on my black bezel Black Bay on bracelet in May. Surely you can find a new red ETA on a strap for ~£2000, even from an AD?

Edit: maybe they aren't available at that price now - even Iconic has the red ETA on a strap at £2,310. Did Tudor get a price bump at the same time as Rolex?
Should have said, this is out of UK but with 25% VAT meaning a 20% discount on that £2,400! SO, effectively £1920...

More good news! wink

What about that PVD 'Dark' BlackBay, are they popular. I see a new one, but it's a bit more cash and on a bracelet...

Agreed, at around £3k for a 42mm ceramic cased chronograph, what's not to like! Although I don't know how good the 7753 ETA movement is.

That's a great looking watch,
I love the bronze writing. Wonder if that kicked off the idea for the Bronzo BB...

It comes with both a bracelet and material strap?

Has the emblem changed, I thought it used to be a shield?
The come with 'Nato' style, but then there's an option for leather or bracelet, with a small price diffferential.

On mine it's a rose on both face and crown...

My Bronzo has a shield on face, rose on crown.
