I'm considering a Rolex to 'complete' my watch collection. I think I've narrowed the choices down to:
- Submariner (Black)
- GMT Master II (Black/Blue Batman)
- Submariner (Green 'Hulk')

I'm not really that bothered about 'investment potential' but would be interested in your thoughts on which would be the best choice (and why).

I know much of this is highly subjective so I'm particularly interested in how the different watches are perceived by the 'experts' on here!

I do also like the look of the Deep Sea 'Deep Blue' Sea-dweller, but am sure this is much too chunky for me.

Thanks

If it's to complete your collection, surely it depends on what else you have?
I guess that's a fair point. I was keen to avoid suggestions that I should get rid of watch x to purchase watch z etc.

Existing Watches are
Breitling Montbrillant (white face, steel case, brown leather strap)
IWC Potugieser Chronograph (Black face, steel case, black leather strap)
Tudor Pelagos (Black bezel / dial, metal strap)
Omega Seamaster diver 300 (Blue bezel / dial, metal strap)
Longines Master collection Moon Phase Chronograph (white face, steel case, leather strap) - arriving soon!

Plus of course a cheap watch (Klaus Kobe!) bought 30 years ago, for emergency use (I.e. When it's not appropriate to wear any of the others!)

I think you should go for the black sub! By the way i have a brand new black sub for sale at the mo!! LOL.
I've pretty much ruled that out as being too similar to my Pelagos (even though I do realise there are material differences!).

In that case, I'd go with the GMT (Batman)
But why?!

You've two divers already, so I'd go with the GMT function over either Sub.
That's a fair point and one that I've thought about. In practice of course I have a dive computer which makes the watch somewhat redundant as a diving tool, but I agree, for variety, the GMT is the right choice.

I'm also interested in comments about the perceived quality of the watch, the history, the perception of the different models / designs amongst the cognoscenti etc.

Basically the stuff that might be worth factoring into a decision that I might not otherwise think about!

GMT concept goes back to 1954/5 and was designed at the request of Pan-Am so pilots could track two zones on the now fast single crossings of the oceans with the dawn of the airliner jet-age.

Looks great, built like a tank, functional, a classic Rolex watch smile
You don't have one for sale, do you?!

I like your watch threads Sid, always an interesting angle.

I have both BLNR and Hulk. The latter picked up this week.

I was very conflicted, as both are lovely, when I got the first of the pair, the BLNR and it was simply that the AD had that in that made the decision easier for me.

Of the two, given your Pelagos, I'd go BLNR. It sits slightly better on my wrist and I love the blue/black contrast, but mainly the extremely clever complication that the GMT brings to the party.

Sadly, I suspect you'll have to save up a bit more cash as frankly only having both of them really makes any sense!
As has been said above, colour aside, the BLNR is more 'different' than what I have already, so that's the natural choice.

Then I can think about a Hulk in future...

I haven't got the watch yet - something could go wrong. Until it's on my wrist it's not part of my collection...

Seriously, I don't think I'll be buying any more watches - I have all bases covered - diving, multiple time-zones, dress watches, daily etc etc.

No need to justify £7k for a funny green watch!
