As the title says really...
Come December time, I will be officially 30 years old.

Thought I'd mark the milestone by buying myself a watch. I have managed to narrow it down to two watches but cannot get it down to one. Both have their pros/cons and both are roughly in the same ballpark in terms of price. Watches in question are:

IWC Portuguese IW500107 SS with white face/blue strap
Rolex Daytona SS with white dial

Only reason I'm asking now is that if I decide on the Rolex, I'd have to put down a deposit pretty quickly to be in with a chance of getting one in time. My AD reckons he can get one within 8 months. I think it may take longer...

Just wanted to know what would be 'the one' to get out of them two. Any advice/opinions would be helpful. Thanks

Interesting.

I have a Tissot and a Seiko as daily beaters. This watch (whichever I do decide on) will be worn occasionally only. Not sure if that changes anything but I want it to feel special each time it is worn.

The problem with the Daytona is the massively long wait times to get a hold of one. Any idea where I could pick one up within the next 8 months?

Hmmm

Would rather use a Rolex AD for the Daytona, but that does involve a long wait. Don't want to pay over RRP for it, thats for sure.

Think I'll go with the IWC, and chuck on a deposit for a Daytona at some point later. Whenever it turns up, it turns up. I can wait.

I wouldn't wear either as a daily, as it would just get finished at work. This will be an evening/weekend watch, worn at most two or three times a week.

Not too keen on a Bi-Metal one. It would have to be SS.
Ernest Jones in Ealing have a Bi-Metal one in their window as well. Tried it on for size etc, but just not keen on the look of it.

They were not willing to take down my name for the SS. Said the list was 'long enough' already.
