I thought this warranted its own thread!

Due to validate at Farnborough tomorrow apparently!

I wonder if they will treat RIAT to a flyby?

If they are validating at Farnborough tomorrow, I assume they must have departed the USA today.
Must have done.
I understand that they are not basing here, but at Fairford, so that will be an unexpected treat fir the RIAT attendees!

It won't fly because it can't be validated to display so pointless bringing the thing over just to park it up somewhere out of the way.
Why can it not be validated to display?

The same bunch of current and ex-light blue and dark blue that christened the thing Dave some years back also christened it the wheelie-bin door - again some years back.
How/why did they come up with Dave?
Anything to do with this guy?

I wouldn't want some computer(s) deciding to eject me from my a/c!
Computers flying planes is perfectly safe... what could possibly go wrong?

No, it's goes back waaaaay longer than that.

Took a while to find again as didn't realise it was so long ago.....just goes to show how long we've been waiting for this white elephant to materialise.

Here's the light hearted naming thread from 8 (yes that's eight!) years ago.....

Or more appropriately, as it was a human problem with the Airbus..

I always thought that was a story put out by Airbus because they were worried about customers losing faith in FBW.

another story which has just been tweeted by a journo who is at the show today.
He reckons that this is absolute confirmation that she will attend.
I remain unconvinced.

Latest I have heard:

F35 now definitely cleared for flight.
A flight plan that was for tonight has been postponed for 24 hours.
Lots of noise on Twitter about it happening.

Confirmed by the US DoD this morning - the F35 will NOT be appearing at Farnborough.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-28321023
That's just the BBC be a bit slow and confirming this morning what the Pentagon confirmed yesterday morning wink

As I said, in an earlier post, the restricted flight regime imposed on the return to flight status was hardly going to allow a first time trans Atlantic trip when one of the restrictions (among many!) is a boroscope inspection of the fan blade unit after every 3 engine hours!!!
Could they not strategically place their carriers at intervals across the pond? It's been approved for carrier landings..

is the plane due to appear anywhere else in the UK later in the summer?
Very much doubt it.
I think it was always going to be about Farnborough, and they tied in RIAT as they were consecutive weekends.

Drones cannot think... 30 years down the line maybe but even then I would imagine it will be in a support role to manned assets.
Aren't the drones at the moment controlled from a ground station anyway? I wasn't meaning some sort of autonomous drone but more an extension of what we have now?

Given the amount spent on the F35 how much could drones have been advanced the same
I am sure I read recently that 6th generation (the F35 is fifth generation) aircraft would in some cases be "pilotless"
