I didn't know we still have an airworthy Gannet!

Got to admire the commitment it must take to maintain this in a flightworthy condition!

Not flying yet as far as I know. There is also a project in the US to get one back in the air.
If it's not flying it's just driven to Airventure 2014 at Oshkosh ;-)

We had 4 AEW versions on the old Ark Royal. 849b Flight. 3 had the 'Bell-Hop' RADAR fitted and one had an empty RADAR Dome which we used to fill up with mail and essential stores. It was called the COD.
There was one outside the NAAFI in HMS DRYAD for a few years until a few lads took the brakes off and started to push it down the main drive.

Empty dome?! Don't think the Sqdn Eng Offcr (The Moth, we called him), would have liked that idea! There was always a damned scanner in there when we took the snail off. The COD carried the mail and other "stuff".There was one outside the NAAFI in HMS DRYAD for a few years until a few lads took the brakes off and started to push it down the main drive.
XA459 is slowly rotting tucked away behind the Black hangar at Waltham...

...but there is a spare Twin Mamba lurking at the back of another hangar that appears to be in reasonable condition.
