Is there a big army exercise going on?

I live in South Glos, a few miles north of Bristol. For much of yesterday we had Chinooks, Merlins and Pumas flying back and forth north-west and south east. They started up early today and have been repeating the performance but many now with cargo nets and lorries slung underneath.

Does anyone know what's going on?

By the end of the weekend even my wife could tell the difference between Chinooks, Merlins and Apaches without looking up. There's hope for the old girl yet!
