Hi everyone, I have seen requests for help with votes on Pistonheads over the years that tend to be well received.

I would like to ask you to consider adding your vote to this appeal:

http://buildingbettercommunities.co.uk/submission/...

The station the Penlee lifeboat crew and helpers use is a temporary solution put in place not very long after the tragic loss of the Solomon Brown. This boat until it's devastating loss was launched from a boathouse with a slipway, not long afterwards a replacement boat was supplied to Penlee, this was an Arun class, the first of the boats with a design similar to the modern boats you see today, she was built to stay afloat so the station was moved to Newlyn (where the Penlee station very first started from) with a temporary solution for preparing to go to sea, this was in the mid '80's!

New boats, new kit means more room is needed to change and a dedicated training room etc is desperately need to help them keep at the top of the game, also there is little to no workshop at the moment, something that needs addressing as well.

Your vote will help towards providing the space this most special of stations needs.

Thank you for reading this, and thank you if you vote and spread the word, you are helping save lives at sea.

Sorry to bang on about this but the voting is very very close so if you could just spend a moment to click the link in the top post and vote for the Penlee station (the last station to lose a boat and crew on service) we would all be very grateful indeed.

Sadly some people look for reasons to put down certain charities, The RNLI is fantastically supported by the public so tends to have some pretty good reserves, this seems to make them a target however the picture is rarely clear, the running costs of the service is astronomical.

The reserves held will be eaten into this year with the building of a brand new all weather lifeboat assembly building which will allow all future lifeboats to be built in house, made in the UK which is a brilliant thing, the inshore boats are built in the UK as well, six new Shannon all weather boats and the launch platforms will be built this year at approx £5 million per complete set plus shoreworks to accept the new boats into old stations.

The RNLI has also undertaken support and training of lifeguards and flood rescue teams which is another huge cost and undertaking, but the whole service is based around saving lives at sea, that one thing is priceless IMO, seeing a child caught in a rip pulled quickly to safety by a young lifeguard is an awesome thing to see, just as impressive as seeing a big boat banging through the surf on it's way to help a yacht in trouble.

This little appeal is to help Penlee get a new station, it is nothing fancy, a bigger building than the temp one constructed after the Salomon Browne disaster, somewhere to get changed in some comfort, train on the shore, make a brew or good soup after a shout with room to move, a workshop for the mechanic to work on the inshore and all weather boats as well as the station and everything else in his care.

To help is two or three clicks of a mouse, no money,no cold call just a 'like' and you will be helping save lives at sea, you may pass this post by, I respect your choice but rest assured, the crews of the lifeboats will never pass you by, no matter what the risk, time or tide.

A.

Hi all, just a quick note to say with your help Penlee won the bid for help from Jewsons to build the new station, the prize total was £50,000 plus £10,000 approx for a new kitchen in the new building.

Every vote counted and every single vote is massively appreciated so on behalf of the Penlee station and crew, the volunteers there, and the RNLI, THANK YOU so much for helping!
