Can't see Farnborough being too happy about them announcing it, pretty sure they'd have wanted this as an exclusive but i see the owners are touting for business too.
All seems a bit strange really, surely the airshow would pay the costs of transport.
Hope it pans out better than the ME 262 from last time. All seems a bit strange really, surely the airshow would pay the costs of transport.
Mostly subject to confirmation, but if it all turns up, I'll be pleased. (especially the C5)!

Bit of hearsay currently going around at work, rumours are 2 A380 and a 747-800 something to do with Boeing celebrating anniversary?
Looking forward to being up close and personally with a jumbo!
If they all turn up AND the rumoured C5, there's going to be some big planes! Looking forward to being up close and personally with a jumbo!

One 380, is static display and the other is doing the demo. The demo aircraft will be positioned on the east apron which is on the opposite side of the runway. How it will fit is another issue haha.Guvernator said:
Considering going this year but a have never been before so have a few questions.
1) Is traffic\parking a nightmare and if not, where's the best place to leave the car?
Yes, it's a nightmare, but when you have many thousands of people descending on the area, it always will be. Having said that, it's well organised, and if its like previous years, you will be directed to a car park, and walk or be bused to the airfield.
2) If yes to above would we be better going by train?
Quite possibly.
3) Is it worth staying overnight or can you see most things and get in and out in one day?
Unless you booked a year ago, you will struggle to find accommodation locally.
4) Where are the best viewing spots, I have a young daughter so ideally I'd like to stay away from the massive crowds.
Leave that one to someone else.

Don't be put off too much. There are spots in the public area where you can do just that. I've sat on many a blanket at Farnborough and watched the displays. The further to the left along the crowd line you go the better chance you have of having a fairly unobstructed view.
These video shots are pretty poor. They were taken by me way back in 1992 but they do show the view you can get if you are willing to walk down towards the end of the crowd line. It hasn't changed from that point of view over the years as I've stood more or less in the same spot quite a few times since. What you can see, I hope, is that the ground slopes down towards the runway so you are above the head line of the people standing in front of you.
The original footage is much better, it's just the software I was using to upload to my computer has produced a rotten copy. I'll see if I can do something better with the originals later.

Aha that looks pretty good actually. I just didn't want to be stuck in the middle of a heaving crowd, stood up and still not seeing anything. Thanks Eric, looks like it might be back on. Do all the planes display on both days or is it pot luck as to which you see on what day?

Not "pot luck", but not everything displays every day. For example, in previous years, some historic aircraft have tended to display at the weekends, rather than every day.
That's the other confusing thing, people keep talking about the weekday but when I go to the official website it only has tickets for the weekend and seems to indicate that's when the flying displays are on. Am I missing something as I'd rather miss a day off work and go during the week if the planes are flying and it's going to be less crowded. It used to be a case that you could only buy tickets if were "Joe Public" for Saturday / Sunday. Not sure if this is still the case though.

I'm trying to buy a ticket for the Friday but the website page where you order tickets won't load up properly. Has anybody else had similar problems - or do they know of a ticket ordering telephone number? I've searched the site and can't see any phone numbers.
Are you on Twitter Eric? They usually respond to tweets.Eric Mc said:
Thanks for the replies regarding my ticket queries.
Even though the ticket ordering page wasn't loading properly, I found that it was still actually possible to go ahead and order the ticket. It has now all been sorted and I will be going on the Friday - so that I can wander about the exhibition halls.
Have a brilliant time Eric, I suspect that you are looking forward to this almost as much as I am Even though the ticket ordering page wasn't loading properly, I found that it was still actually possible to go ahead and order the ticket.
