Anyone going to have a look? The thing looks gigantic, it's quite impressive really!

Does anyone know where's it's docked? Might go and see it this week and I'd like to get as close as possible.

Is it not sailing to Barcelona today?
Something like that, but think it's coming back tomorrow or Thursday. Then it leaves again on Friday.

Think its going to the Nederlands first, then onto Barcelona and it'll do the med for summer. I think its in Southampton docks for the rest of the week, leaves for Rotterdam on the 22nd.
It's departing on Friday at 6pm. Then comes back on Sunday, and leaves again on Sunday.

Just drive to the docks, I doubt you'll fail to spot it.
I remember going to a submarine museum with my dad as a kid, and we were the opposite side of the museum, across a stretch of water full of fishing boats and the such. My dad pointed out the submarine, and for whatever reason, my eyes failed me. The masts of the boats etc put me off and it took me a good 2-3 minutes to finally see this huge submarine sitting on the other side of the water laugh so you never know wink

Not being a boaty type, where would the captain steer / drive that boat from.
Behind the windscreen at the front somewhere, on top of the first tower at the front or the bigger tower at the back..
Or do you think these boats are so sofisticated and big, he does not need to look out at all
I THINK it's this bit

Does anyone know the actual intentions of this ship? It departed, got as far as parallel with Dartmoor, now heading back to Southampton, was it a test cruise? laugh

If you go onboard almost any ship thats not sail powered and expect to see this

you will be dissapointed, they mostly look like this

In some ships you won't even see a wheel at all - this is from Oasis of the Seas
Pretty sure there's a wheel in OOTS, I watched a YouTube video onboard it earlier and it had one.

No. Why would I pay money to go to something I hated? I've never been to Butlins or Pontins either. Both would be hideous.
How do you know you'd hate it if you've never been on one? Open your mind, you might love it.

Ditto for restaurants on RC, main dining room etc on Harmony included; speciality restaurants like Jamie's Italian you pay a little extra for
Didn't know Oliver was Italian laugh

And most ships will offer a drinks package when you board. I paid a long time ago $20 for unlimited soft drinks for a week in all bars and restaurants, for more you can have an alcoholic package which others could probably advise on.
$20 for a weeks worth of unlimited soft drinks is incredible.

Quick question for anybody who's been on cruises, or even the HotS, what time do they turn stuff off? The lights on the top etc, restaurants, casinos, do they stop or is it 24/7?

I struggle to get my head around the profitability of these things when I see the customer/staff ratio (which seems to be around 3:1), 2100 staff looking after 5700 people seems like a huge number to me...I guess most of those staff aren't getting paid a great deal, presumably why they're all registered in a country with non-existent labour laws.
I'd be happy to get paid f**k all if I got to travel.

in a bunk room with 6-10 others in the bilges ?

Crack on.

Travel is wonderful. Work travel is generally, unequivocally pants.
To be fair, I'm comparing it to a job I nearly took as a photographer on board a cruise ship. But I would've had better accommodation.

My parents have recently popped their cruising cherry, doing the Norwegian Fjords for a week from Southampton on P&O Azura. They absolutely loved it and can't wait to go again and when you consider the cost was £349 per person, it's exceptional value really. I'm still unsure about it as a holiday myself, but seeing the photos and hearing about it from them, we're considering it with our 4 year old daughter, but I'd prefer a line with a little less formality.
£349?! Wow. For that price I'll be interested in going ASAP!

The thing is they are sold as a shakedown cruise and are cheap for a reason. People booking the first trips surely must realise that the boat will have teething issues.
Huge difference between teething issues and stuff still being built though.
