Another one along the lines of 'What if?' prompted by a film/stupid reply I made to another thread on here. Imagine a Nimitz class carrier appears bang in the middle of the Pacific mid 1942 and the crew recognize what's happened. They are fully supplied and can use all their weapons till they run out, when they return to the present. What could they do to most help the Allied war effort, in any theatre of combat. No nukes allowed.

Interesting answers! I was thinking the carrier would appear, operate in isolation till it's weapons/food/aviation fuel ran out, then disappear, without letting it's presence to be known to the Allies or allowing any technology to be reverse engineered. As for code cracking, don't these tubs have a complement of around 5000? Surely there'd be at least one computer nerd on board who'd be up for it, as I'm sure there is on PH. OT, just spent the day at the Royal Armouries in Leeds, well worth a visit!

I'm always mystified by the references to World War Eleven I keep seeing. Doesn't anybody understand Roman numerals anymore?
I was going to post that! You beat me to it!
Sorry for my error. 1 won't make the same mistake again;)

We'll have you reciting Latin nouns in the 1st Declension before you know it smile
HaHa,no you won't! I had VI months off work in MMXIV due to an accident and I was beginning to go up the walls a little, so I had a crack at learning/grasping the basics of Latin: So most mornings I undertook a bit of brute force learning, writing down my declensions, conjugations and 400 or so Latin phrases in the hope something would stick. A little has, though not apparently, my grasp of Roman numerals. I used to watch Jeremy Kyle while I was doing it but maybe that's one for the Council thread!
