Really interesting currently following the build of a 39m carbonfibre sailing boat, weight penalties in the contract for all subcontractors also a few other quite interesting builds

There was one on more4 last night about the Monaco boat show, and some of the owners / brokers trying to sell them.

Interesting to see how the other half live. One used yacht "Solandge" was up for 175million. The broker explained that he had to filter out the "riffraff" who wants to look around - I guess that means the poor multi-millionaires, not the billionaires who could spend that type of money on a boat.

He reckoned he could look at someone's haircut, watch, etc and spot a potential punter. I guess that is why he will get his 5% when it sells (seriously 5% of the sale price commission, so he would be paid millions for selling the boat, which I guess to be fair doesn't happen too often). Some unnamed American sent his British agent to have a look. The cameras followed him for a while - some vessel indeed, but also some dubious owner taste in fittings, which he felt his client would like as it was just like his New York apartment smile

Another buyer stated that when a deal is done on a ready to go used boat, the owner is unlikely to see it for two years while it has a multi-million refit!

The president of Mongolia showed up, and some british bloke looking to spend £60m on a new tub (if he can unload his current £20m vessel) asked him if he had a yacht. The president's answer was that Mongolia is land locked... to which the Brit guy kind of gave an embarrassed smile, clearly didn't know and bowed out a bit.

Interesting program, glad I watched it.

The American is the same bloke who was on the Wayne Carini car chasers programme buying back his daytona soft top that he owned from new in the 70's, forgotten his name but he used to have a photocopy business called A1, he has a stunning car collection with a Mac F1 etc

The Superyacht programme was on channel 520something on sky, seems to be based mainly on dutch yards and designers
