Call me a girl, but as I progress from my 20s to my 30s I'm finding beer harder and harder to stomach in any quantity. Don't get me wrong, I love a pint of real ale but whereas I used to be able to drink a good 5-6 pints without too much of an issue, the same quantity today leaves me feeling quite awful the following morning, very bloated and I'm up half the night in the boys room.

My missus has got me onto G&Ts and I'm quite impressed. Easy to drink and with sufficient strength to make me tipsy after only a (large) glass or two. So far, no bloatedness and very little effect the following morning.

However, I've only drunk "cheap" gin and tonics and would like to experiment a little.

So; very keen to hear what gin and tonics I should be buying and any specific recipes to try?

I've been told that Bombay Sapphire and Hendricks are two good ones, the latter with cucumber and not lemon/lime. Fever tree tonics have also been mentioned...

I'm off most of next week so will buy in some recommendations. Let battle commence.

Thanks for the responses!

I've tried a few different gins (and tonics) since I posted the question and my favourite so far is Hendricks gin. It taste is much more complex than Gordans (quite harsh), Greenalls (nicer than Gordans, but a bit rough around the edges) and Bombay Sapphire (quite sweet).

My favourite tonic is Fever Tree without a shadow of a doubt. Much better than the cheap own brand tonics and the sickly sweet Schwepps.

So; firm favourite is Hendricks and Fever Tree, with a slice of cucumber.

Still got lots more to try though! Hic.
