Mystery Box ingredients

My girlfriend is a keen cook and an avid watcher of MasterChef. Last night she was criticising the contestants during the "Mystery Box" round so I suggested our very own mystery box challenge. I'm now looking for suggestions for two mystery boxes, one savoury, one sweet. Ideally I'd like to allow a couple of different potential 'routes' for each box... the only restrictions are that the ingredients need to be readily available in the local supermarket and no shellfish (or I'll die horribly). Has anyone got any suggestions?

Yup, basic ingredients also available.. eggs, flour, spices, milk etc etc
