The Pizza Hut buffet thread reminded me of a situation I had last week with some Pizza Hut food that was delivered to my house. It's a bit of a weird one though...

A month or so back, I hadn't 'hit the Hut' for years, preferring my usual Dominoes. But I was with a mate who suggested going in, so we visited one of their restaurants.

I was pleasantly surprised - the pizza I chose was lovely, really tasty. It was a slightly 'hot' one, so it had a nice kick to it, the toppings were really nice, and the dough was very well done - just the right balance between soft and crispy, with a nice 'Olive-Oily' texture.

Anyway, a Pizza Hut 'delivery and take-away only' shop has recently opened up in my town. So I gave it a go. First of all, I found their online ordering a bit of a faff, and then I was disappointed to see that the Pizza I had in the restaurant was not listed, so I had to go for something different. I also ordered another one so my family had two to mix and match from.

When they turned up - first of all, they weren't exactly piping hot, but warm enough to be acceptable. Anyway, I dug in and.....urrrghh! It was NASTY! The dough was hard and chewy, the toppings were hard, and overall the entire things were totally dry and tasteless!

They could not have been more different from the one in the restaurant. We took one slice from each, and almost immediately stopped eating. The box lids got closed and we cooked something else.

So what gives here? Are the collection / take-away shops using a totally different set of ingredients? Different cooking methods? Or what???

As an amusing aside, I took the pizzas back the next day. I spoke to a clueless chav girl first who called her 'manager' over - a lanky child with too many arm tattoos. I explained the situation, and he first offered to cook me two more, then after I said I didn't want any more, started to discuss vouchers. I stopped him and said 'look mate, I just want a refund...'

He genuinely looked lost. He said that he didn't do refunds, but after I insisted, he scuttled off to call his 'boss.' When he came back, he did give me a refund, but he said that they don't normally do refunds, and that it was a one-off, and I'd not get a refund again next time. Not wishing to go into huge detail and argue the toss about consumer rights, I just took the money and left, reminding him that 'there wouldn't be a next time, so don't worry' biggrin
