Hi All,

Wondering if anyone has tried this? I have a day off tomorrow, i have 1kg of good quality cubed beef from a decent butchers and lots of onions to use up. I'm wondering if it's possible to start on the hob for an hour or so then transfer to a slow cooker? I'm concerned it might significantly alter the end product if i do? Any thoughts from the forum would be appreciated.

Im am just trying to work out if thats bert or ernie......
biggrin

OP: Starting on the hob wouldn't be a problem as long as you don't let the onions brown too much. Might give that one a go myself. Looks like a good winter dish, perfect for this week frown
Thanks for the tip 21TonyK.

Might give it two hours on the hob to sweat a decent amount of liquid out of the onions. Then transfer to the slow cooker for around 6 hours so i can go out. When I return i think i might transfer back to the pot on the hob and reduce the liquid on a low to medium heat for an hour.

As i said in the OP i will be doing this tomorrow so i will try and add some pictures and will let you all know what its like.

Love the fact you tried it so soon after I posted it. Mine is still in the slow cooker as i had to go out in the end until early afternoon. It will be finished shortly then eaten tomorrow. Have got pictures so will post once it's finished.

Tony - I really liked the one i did. Unfortunately my phone broke shortly after making it and has been replaced. The pics were on it. Now your thoughts on this dish has given me an idea.

Now this might be due to a few drinks this evening but does anyone think there would be shown by PH'ers in us all callaborating with this part of the forum to develop a PH'ers dish?

Perhaps start with a single meat / protein then maybe i could create a poll to vote for type of dish - this could be based on time to prep (30mins, 1 hour, 1 day etc) perhaps it could be based on seasons? Once this is settled we maybe vote on 5 existing / know dishes that fit the criteria. Whatever wins the poll is what will form perhaps 3-5 ingredients essential to our forums dish. The forums dish cannot currently exist or be different to the initial styles suggested - i think i have made this more complicated than it needs to be.

Essentially what I'm saying is would people on here be interested in working together through the forum to create a new dish?
