Shirley I can't be the only one who enjoys the odd tipple of this stuff. So for all of you who enjoy a proper pint, what's your favourite tipple?

Currently enjoying a Triple XB myself

Old Rosie Cider (OK not an ale but if any real ale types ever fancy a cider try this one)

Oh well as Cider has been mentioned I may as well continue the theme. If you get the chance to try "Rattler", personally I think its fantastic but it seems to be a love/hate thing .

Good to see I'm not alone

BTW, does anyone know of a light ale called "son of a bitch". I had it in a very rural pub which held a beer and pumpkin festival near Swanage during an A-level Geography fieldtrip. It was perhaps the nicest beer I've ever had, thought somewhat potent at about 8% iirc. I've tried a couple of times since to track it/the brewers down online, but with no joy.

Cheers

A while since I've seen "Son of a Bitch"; it is very good, and was (or still is?) brewed by Bullmastiff Brewery (14 Bessemer Close, Cardiff CF11 8DL) and was a 6.5% IIRC.

My current favourites include Sharp's Doom Bar from Cornwall and the ever-reialble Adnams Bitter.

beer

Good call with the Doom Bar, that's my regular tipple down here at uni Thanks of the information about "Son of a bitch", I'll write to Bullmastiff and see if they supply anywhere down this way.

I've found it in Sainsbury's and bought it once to try - never again though. It's a bit strange to be honest, like beer with scotch in, but not in a good way.

6X is brewed down the road from me, and is the best beer in the world. Equally fine as a single refreshing pint, or an all-day session beer.

Incidentally, this thread is probably the appropriate time to mention that the Bitter owners club mag is also called Best Bitter

I'll have to try some, will post my opinions as and when. Also, what a fantastic collection of cars, love the look of the Bitter SC and the Bristol 410; and despite not being able to say the same for the looks of the Tatra the idea of an aircooled, rear mounted V8 is, hmmmm....interesting.

Spotted some in Asda in other day. I love it lick, will be getting half a dozen or so bottles when I next shop

While I was there I also picked up some back sheep, which I haven't had for a while, again lovely but in a completely different way.

If you like black sheep then I would also suggest some of the other ales from the black sheep brewery, riggswelter is very good, and although only slightly stronger than black sheep (and slightly dryer and lighter) will make you "squify" (technical term) somewhat faster, but an excellent flavour.

Another good one is Tesco's own "Golden Sheep" it is actually a Black Sheep Brewery beer (that becomes very obvious when you read the label) but brewed exclusively for Tescos (well it doesn't taste like any of their others I've tried and I've tried most, although maybe not all). £1.54 a bottle and if you like a good honest Yorkshire Ale, you can't go wrong.

Good good, I will have to try some more from that Brewery. The only slight downfall of £1.54/bottle for golden sheep is that I can get Black Sheep for £1.33/bottle in Asda's 3 for £4 offer!

Where do you get that from Matt, might give it a go myself.

While not quite in line with the threads origins I'm currently enjoying a Leffe which I rediscovered at new year, and is a bit different from my normal tipple

There's a new variant of it too which is Rum casked; it's certainly different but I didn't particularly enjoy. Also £1/bottle in Tesco's at the moment.

Happy to report that my local, The Pig 'N Falcon in St Neots, has just been awarded the local county Most Improved Pub Of The Year award and very well deserved too IMO!
Sounds good, my local was taken over a few years ago and has improved massively since, to the extent that it got Best Freehouse last year thumbup

Current enjoying a XXXB smile

Popped into the White Rabbit in Maidstone this evening for a drink after rowing and was very pleasantly surprised to find Fraoch Heather Ale, not something I've had before, but something I will definitely keep an eye out for. Definitely the nicest pint I've had this year smile

I was at The Bull in Benenden last night, where they had Curious Brew Brut. It was absolutely fantastic, much hoppier and more fruity than most lager thumbup It is apparently fermented with part Champagne yeast.

We had a works do last night and they had Red Squirrel RSX on at the hotel, which was a rather lovely tipple.

Couldn't resist - it was genuinely very nice though, tangy and refreshing. I'm a fiend for wheat beers though.
I'll keep an eye out for it then!

Reading beer festival this weekend you say, my sister lives in Reading, maybe an impromptu visit is in order.

And London Pride and Old Peculiar. They had to be retrieved from the fridge though which really isn't on.

I found myself in the Foundry in Canterbury at the weekend, the is separated from part of the micro-brewery by a glass wall so about as close as you can get to it. I thoroughly enjoyed these:

But wasn't such a fan of this:

If any of you get dark star beers in your pubs I'd recommend trying their seasonal beer for November, six grain. They describe it as a pale, but it's got a lovely rich chestnut colour to it, full of flavour and very drinkable. It's 4.8% and has a nice blend of flavours which really complement each other.
Thanks,I'm a fan of Dark Star but unfortunately don't see them very often, I'll keep an eye out.
