Like many, I look forward to Hypno-Toad's quiz and, probably like many again, I usually suffer. However, it does seem a bit unfair for so many of us to rely on one person for the quiz-like entertainment, so I thought I'd start an alternative, just to fill in the gaps, until we're all properly tested again.

Hopefully its not so easy as to be all done in a flash, I'm not so hot on 70s one-hit-wonders. But if it is, perhaps whoever thinks they got the most right can set the next one.

Anyway, here goes...

1. Focus, your mind will be strong, no distractions.

2. Thread worms on a string, keeps spiders in her pocket. Collects fly wings in a jar, scrubs horse flies

3. I can shine even in the darkness, but I crave the light that he brings

4. Model citizen, zero discipline

5. Learning how to give and not be afraid, of the place where I live and mistakes I have made

6. You touch me with your spirit, you touch me with your heart.

7. No time for flight, a blinding light

8. I looked into your face, my heart was dancing all over the place

9. Don't look ahead, there's stormy weather, another roadblock in our way

10. You're talented kid, we can see it clearly

11. Though your world is changing, I will be the same

12. When I close my eyes, when I look your way.

13. Study your face and fade the frame, too close for comfort now.

14. You listened to their side, now listen to mine

15. Do you see what I see? Why do we live like this?

16. There ain't nothing you could ask I could answer you but I won't

17. I was high on a molatov of cocktails, I was low on a hundred things

18. I'll have some pickled onions, and a little bit of cheese, please.

19. So if you see me acting strangely, don't be surprised, I'm just a man who needed someone, and somewhere to hide

20.Too long trying to resist it, you've just gone and missed it

Well, its lasted 24hrs, which was longer than I thought. We've had a few right answers already, and these remain...

1. Focus, your mind will be strong, no distractions.

3. I can shine even in the darkness, but I crave the light that he brings

5. Learning how to give and not be afraid, of the place where I live and mistakes I have made

8. I looked into your face, my heart was dancing all over the place

9. Don't look ahead, there's stormy weather, another roadblock in our way

10. You're talented kid, we can see it clearly

11. Though your world is changing, I will be the same

13. Study your face and fade the frame, too close for comfort now.

14. You listened to their side, now listen to mine

15. Do you see what I see? Why do we live like this?

16. There ain't nothing you could ask I could answer you but I won't

19. So if you see me acting strangely, don't be surprised, I'm just a man who needed someone, and somewhere to hide

20.Too long trying to resist it, you've just gone and missed it

I reckon 5, 10 and 19 are the tougher ones to get, though the remaining songs spread from 1968 to 2012

As for the rest - pfft. Too hard for me, and I'm usually quite good at the Toad's quiz.
Hmm, seems I may have aimed a little higher than I thought, and overshot. There are still ten to get, so I'll think of some clues if that's what we need.

OK, so I've pitched this at the trickier end of the scale, but to see if we can get to the end, rather than try to provide oblique clues, I've just added some lyrics - 10 to go...

1. Focus, your mind will be strong, no distractions. Soak up wisdom all year long, and then take action

3. I can fly, but I want his wings. I can shine even in the darkness, but I crave the light that he brings

5. When I'm on my own, and out of my mind. I realize how I've grown, and changed my old line. Learning how to give and not be afraid, of the place where I live and mistakes I have made

8. I looked into your face, my heart was dancing all over the place. I'd like to change my point of view, if I could just forget about you

9. Don't look ahead, there's stormy weather, another roadblock in our way. But if we go, we go together, our hands are tied here if we stay

10. We love you, yeah. We love what you got and you've got it truly. You're talented kid, we can see it clearly

15. Do you see what I see? Why do we live like this? Is it because it's true, that ignorance is bliss?

16. There ain't nothing you could ask I could answer you but I won't. I was gonna change, but I’m not if you keep doing things I don’t

19. My heart is human, my blood is boiling, my brain IBM. So if you see me acting strangely, don't be surprised, I'm just a man who needed someone, and somewhere to hide

20.Too long trying to resist it, you've just gone and missed it. Its escaped your world

I reckon 8 and 16 would be classed as very famous or recognisable. A lot of people would have also heard nos 15 and 20. Nos 1,3 and 9 whilst not terribly popular would still have been heard by quite a few. 5 and 19 are left-field early 80s, and 10 would be a one-hit wonder from the early 90s

Lovely jubbly - if someone can finish Toad's answer to no20 then we're down to the last 5. Here's a few more clues...

5. First, an apology - I thought this track was released as a single but it seems not. Anyway, it's from a 1982 album by a famous 70s prog rock outfit

9. Female artist, 2012

10. Indie group 1992

15. Female singer/songwriter, 2005

19. Famous US prog rock group, went to no1 in US in 1983

That might, or might not, help!

10) Daisy Chainsaw - We Love Your Money

The "We love you, yeah" set the tune off in my head, would never have got it from the originally posed quote.
Same for me, which is why I missed it out. I reckon this was the one that would be hardest to get - so well done!

The last bit of no20 is from their first album...

Working with the clues, 19 is Mr Roboto by Styx. I didn't search by the lyrics but checked the Billboard chart for likely offenders. Does that make me bad?
That's what clues are for - well done, got the offender!

I honestly thought that was one of the easier ones when I put this together - seems like it's been used in loads of commercials or as backing music. Perhaps it just blends in a bit too well

Aarggh too late to the thread. I only knew two songs instantly from when reading the first post and this was one of them (eighth day was the other). I started frantically searching through the thread hoping no one had it but alas, twas not to be.
Oh don't worry, I've got lots of obscure rubbish, will make sure there's one in there for you next time biggrin

That's obviously presuming I'd be allowed to do another...

OK, the end is in sight, last few bits to get...

5. "When I'm on my own, and out of my mind. I realize how I've grown, and changed my old line. Learning how to give and not be afraid, of the place where I live and mistakes I have made" We know this is Camel, but which track from their 1982 album?

9. "Don't look ahead, there's stormy weather, another roadblock in our way. But if we go, we go together, our hands are tied here if we stay" Female singer, 2012, perhaps a bit too recent for PH music quizzers??

20."Too long trying to resist it, you've just gone and missed it. Its escaped your world" We know this is Muse, but which track?

I can't leave it unfinished, so here's the answers to the last few...

5. When I'm on my own, and out of my mind

9. Don't look ahead, there's stormy weather, another roadblock in our way

20.Too long trying to resist it, you've just gone and missed it

Perhaps we'll just wait for the Toad to return...
