Well, I guess we have all been there.

You finally made it back home after a long day at work. Pour yourself a drink, have a cigarette (in a dry, warm place), if you like.

Lean back and relax, nice & easy background tune would now be just perfect. Nothing with too much "message", not too shallow, either- just right.

I found lounge/ chill stuff does it for me. And here is the issue: music classified as "lounge or chill" nowadays is mostly outright st that can be basically classified into 2 categories (happy to stand corrected):

a) Funeral/ suicide/ self- pity- filled howling of accented negativity
b) Talent- free young female "artist", "performing" at- least- 1- octave- too- high- pitched- hollow cover versions of Sade, Al Green, or similar. The type of music I would imagine to be played in Eastern- European brothels (again happy to stand corrected).

Is it just me? Am I getting old or is there really only horrendous crap being played on the radio (I use a Cambridge Audio internet radio speaker thing in the kitchen)?

I listen to anything between classical, jazz/ fusions/ chill (e.g. Fragile State, the Egg, etc.) to melodic death metal during weekends depending on mood/ alcohol level, but focusing on Lounge & Chill on this occasion:

1. What internet radio stations would you recommend and
2. Anything new out there (CDs, internet, whatever) in that genre that screams "quality"?

Please help thumbup

"Instrumental" is a way around the problem, I agree. However, and if I am not mistaken, vocals are are an integral component of Lounge/ Chill music but sadly most of the time, once the artist opens his/ her mouth (option 1 or 2 in the OP), the "off" button is the only viable alternative.

What I am looking for is a kind of balancing act between 70's elevator/ supermarket music and Massive Attack/ Blue Six/.

I am aware that's unfortunately unlikely to happen- therefore looking for recommendations

Thanks for the feedback, chaps- much appreciated.

Quite a few interesting ideas; will give it a go, looks promising.

If everything else fails, I guess last resort will be having to compose my own music biggrin
