I have similar thoughts about going to gigs. There's youngsters music that I still really love. Though sadly I too am now of a 'certain age' !.......People don't understand that you don't reach a certain age and then are ready to die. We've already experienced probably the cream of great popular music and still appreciate it.
I know what you mean. It pisses me off when I see these adds on tv for over 50s plans and the like. Its like people are being pigeonholed and anyone over 50 should be wearing cardigans and comfy shoes madI guess I haven't grown up yet, thank god.

As others have said...........just go and enjoy. Your 15 year old daughter and friend were fine with you being there which is important.

I use the rule that if someone is asking you to go to an event, without you dropping any hints, then happy days, bring it on. If you have to contrive an invite in some way then its time for the pipe and slippers.

Youth passes but with luck immaturity can last a lifetime..............
Yes, but I've only been asked as I have to drive them up to bristol. rolleyes

So how was it, OP?
Excellent, Id go and see them again. Bristol academy has great acoustics and they sounded spot on. If I had one small criticism it would be that they were only on for just over an hour.

It was a great experience for my daughter as this was her first live gig.

Oh, and I wasn’t the oldest there either. smile

I'm going to see The Manics in May at Wembley Arena, four days after my 50th birthday. thumbup
Fantastic.

I have seen them 5 times in the last 4 years. They were excellent at an outdoor gig at Bristol Harbourside.
First saw them at Milton Keynes Bowl in 1993 as a four piece, then again in 2004 and 2014.

Can't wait!!
Lol, my old post. Been to Wolf Alice another three times since.

I also went to the Manic’s gig at Bristol harbour, another first for me. They were excellent so going again to Cardiff in May.

Wolf Alice don’t especially strike me as a ‘young ‘ persons band.Good album and I’d go if they were near and I’m 49.
Most of the audience seems to be twenty somethings with a mix of teens and younger kids with parents and older fans either side.

I'm more of an old school prog and rock fan but really like Wolf Alice. Well worth seeing if you get the chance.

Wife and I are in our 40's, we do Reading and various gigs, sometimes I feel a bit self conscious, especially when we went to see Bring me the Horizon last year but we still enjoy ourselves.

If you like the band then don't let it worry you, Kings of Leon in the Summer had a wide mix of ages, I've been a fan since they hit the UK (15 odd years ago), why should I hit a certain age and then not enjoy them any more.
I saw bmth at the big weekend at powderham castle and thought they were excellent.

I'm in my 50s and go to gigs all the time. Setting off for my 4th Cruise to the Edge this weekend although to be fair that's full of oldies.

Not bothered what others think, if it's youngster orientated I just stand at the back doing my best "music impresario" impression to fool them. Young Guns in some student bar springs to mind.

Once went to Reading and was having a rest, a beer and a chat in one of the big tents. It started filling up slowly, the lights dimmed and next thing we knew we were in the middle of hundreds of 20 somethings in some trance like show jumping up and down with lasers and all sorts. None of those around us seemed to mind, fantastic fun.

Also saw Magnum this year (in Pwllheli) after first seeing them support Rush in about 1980. There was an old dear 70ish right at the front belting out all their songs word for word without a care. Marvellous.

Then got a spare ticket for Stone Sour, who I'd never heard of, and a similar experience. A silver surfer (70+) in front with her daughter was stood up shouting all the obscene lyrics, "it's all downhill from here, motherf*ckers" whilst gesticulating away wildly. The husband was sat down next to them obviously wishing he'd stayed at home.

It's a lead I certainly intend to follow. Isn't that one of the few advantages of getting old. You don't give a f*ck.
Another cruise to the edge, seem to remember your other posts on this. Wonder how steve howe is doing after the death of his son last year. Anathema sound interesting, I have a few of their cds. Have a good one.

Just back from another great CTTE, don't tell anyone though or they'll put the prices up. Sadly Anathema pulled out at the last minute but the other Headliners were excellent as always. Yes played their Greatest Hits this year after Topographic Oceans last year but sadly SteveH to my eyes was well off the pace and played a lot of duff notes (didn't know about his son).

It was new "supergroup" Sons of Apollo's first ever gig but not that impressed with Ron "Bumblefoot " Thal (8 years guitarist with Guns and Roses). Not as good as he thinks he is. Singer Jeff Scott Soto great though and some good pounding tunes.

Biggest surprise was some psychedelic rock with Gong (anyone remember them, I've got an album somewhere?) which totally suited the venue and audience and brought the house down plus the quirky Knifeworld which freshened up this year's cruise.

Both groups now led by the charismatic and entertaining Kavus Torabi who deserves to be a star.

They're only used as a filler on the cruise (2nd time this year) but I'm a huge fan of these insanely talented blokes (Heavy Mellow).

If you get a chance to see them do so, you'll be amazed.

Onwards to next year...
Must be tough on Steve, it's only 6 months since Virgil's death. I wonder how this will affect him in the long term.

Heavy mellow sound good, I'll keep an eye out for them.
