Best theraputic late night music
Discussion
I broadcast on a hospital/community radio station serving 2 hospitals, the local populace & available worldwide on the interweb (as with most such stations).
Seeking suitable late night/early hours material that is soothing without being too sloppy or Bubblegum. Vocal & non-vocal & melodic smooth jazz sort of stuff.
Am OK with 60's to 80's stuff (but suggestions still welcome), but not so up-to-date with later decades.
What would you like to hear & incidentally what would you hate or might be irritated by?
Would much appreciate your ideas for what is a modest but good cause.
Thanks.

Try Goldfrapp's Tales of us album..... pure late night listening pleasure :-)

Most things by Carmel would appear to fit the bill. This was, I recall, produced by Brian Eno.

Time Out From The World, not from that album but similar, just transports me to somewhere floaty and comfortable.
Kate Bush - Aerial, An Endless Sky Of Honey. Just try to ignore Rolf Harris and her pigeon noises.
Harrold Budd with a couple of the Cocteau Twins album The Moon And The Melodies (on vinyl) bought gawd only knows when (late eighties I think) has some beautiful songs, this being one.

There is also much too be idling the time away in This Mortal Coil's fine body of work, and the Cocteau Twins (if one is selective).

Buy all the "anotherlatenight" mixes, other than the Nick Warren one (because that's dross).
Then pick styles / artists/ labels you like and get googling =)
Found so much good music/artists from the "Late Night Tales" records I didn't know existed, good advice above. Then pick styles / artists/ labels you like and get googling =)
Check out DJ River's chillout and ambient mixes, they're gorgeous. Beautifully-mixed as well and perfect for non-cheese background music.

Free to download, can't recommend them highly enough.

If you like Jon Hopkins then you're likely to find plenty of artists on http://www.helpmechill.com/ who you enjoy too. Bonobo, Hopkins, Nightmares on Wax, Zero 7, Future loop foundation, Lamb, Alucidnation all feature regularly.
https://www.internet-radio.com/ will have links to multiple radio stations which exclusively play chillout & ambient tracks; I'm sure many will fit the therapeutic late night bill.
Good luck.

A Winged Victory for the Sullen are very much in the Eno ambient mould. Nils Frahm piano stuff is consistently beautiful, I'm particularly fond of Felt which was recorded using contact mike's so you can hear all the moving parts of the piano clicking away. tbh pretty much anything put out on the Erased Tapes record label is worth checking out.
Tim Hecker is possibly a little too abrasive to be therapeutic but Ravendeath 72 is utterly unworldly.
Labradford, Grouper and Jon Porras might also be worth checking out.

This has just arrived for me from Amazon. Looking forward to a first listen in a darkened room this weekend.
