Having returned to the drum kit after 20 years away from one, I have this question.

My Mapex kick pedal's beater is almost horizontal when idle. The beater and arm I would say are just above 90 degrees angle to the floor. I can't remember what angle the beaters were when I was playing in my youth, but I am noticing that the beater is flying back and hitting my shin when I use it especially on fast double /triple taps.

I have seen some youtube vids on adjustment and have tried rotating the silver nuts at the side of the spring, but nothing changes. Any idea on normal beater position and how to adjust?

Thanks

I'm really not happy with this so I have uploaded a 30 second video for some guidance. It's not the spring tension, it's the fact that the pedal continually smashes back onto my foot on application. I can't seem to adjust the angle of the beater - unless there is something else I am doing wrong?

Sorted - simple drum key mech on top loosened and arm raised!

Mapex Iron Cobra? I have only just started playing this week after 20 years away from a drum kit, so little to compare it to. To be fair it sounds acceptable to me, once I have built up some competence I might think about a Mapex Mars / Saturn!
