The Sea Cadet Hall in Cambridge, Rowan Robertson(Dio) played his first gig there, when we use to go in the late 70s/early 80s there was lots of NWOBHM bands like these https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6NO3q__Coso.
Halcyon days

Any favourite venues that have long gone?

Don't doubt the venue but can we say 'who' played there? It would give some context.

I remember going to The Marquee on Charing Cross road a few times in the early 90's including seeing a band who's name I dont remember but one of them wore a full face motorbike helmet and a loin cloth. Very odd.

Good point. Duchess of York;

No-Means-No
Alice-Donut
Bongwater
Tad
You Slosh
and of course
JOHN "It'll be a hit by xmas" OTWAY.

There was also a little known band called Nirvana that also played there one night.

Manchester Board Walk has also gone.

'Band On The Wall' appears to be still up and running.

Fulham Greyhound (now a comedy club I think). Young Gods around 1989.

100 Club in Oxford Street - numerous bands and times

London Astoria at TCR - numerous though Front 242 and Renegade Soundwave spring to mind, in 1990s.

Marquee in CCR - most notably R.E.M. playing a warm up gig under a pseudonym Bingo Hand Job - scratch that, I googled it and it was the Borderline which is close by and still going
