Landcruiser Prado - weird behaviour when put in 4wd

Hi all, have noticed that when in 4wd (H4 - haven't checked L4) and turning to the right, a braking effect occurs. It doesn't happen when turning left. On full lock to the right it's really quite noticeable.

Any ideas what's causing this? Is it normal?

It's a 120 series.

I only use 4wd when I really need it, never on tarmac (though it's quite possible a previous owner did). Am I stuck with this behaviour? I'll get my rear diff looked at for starters.
