Anyone here with experience of the 80-series Landcruiser with the 4.2 non-turbo diesel lump? There is one selling locally at a decent price, half tempted but I can't help thinking it would be frustratingly slow... am I right?

Cheers. Might take it for a test drive if its still for sale after Christmas but I suspect it will be a bit too slow for my taste.

Wasn't really planning to buy a 4wd just now, just happened to drive past and it looked a good deal and got me thinking. hehe

Its NZ-new wink - there were both NA and turbo versions sold here in various specs. Think I'll give this one a miss though - its manual which I like, but as well as being NA it doesn't have the full difflocks either just the centre.

Maybe I should clarify, I'm in NZ.

On a side note, it always seems funny to me that whether a car is imported new or second hand makes a difference to your insurance in the UK - the majority of cars here in NZ are Japanese imports and it makes no difference at all to our insurance. Insurers don't even ask where the car came from, just what it is.

But yes, all opinions seem to suggest that the non-turbo ones accelerate about as quickly as a glacier so I don't think I'll bother with it.
