After lots of deliberating and a particularly painful second hand car experience in the UK I decided to buy a new car here rather than going down the 5 year old C63 route...

So yesterday I picked up my new 2015 model Golf R.

I can't upload any photos yet but will try later.

According to the dealer it's only the 3rd to be registered in Dubai and forms part of the first shipment of 20 cars from Germany - so it's pretty rare!

The run in period is going to be so hard to manage - this thing is an absolute mentalist.

deplorable behaviour from TomI4 there, a full 4 cylinders short of a party

how come the golf over cheaper new hoonwagons such as the camaro/challenger?
I know I know - I realised only afterwards that my name was slightly exaggerating my cylinder count. Can't really rely on historical V8 ownership can I. Can I?

I needed a family car with 4 - 5 doors, so the Camaro / Challenger / Mustang was out. Didn't want a current model Charger (the RT looks so white goods it's unreal) - especially when the fantastic looking 2015 model is just around the corner. Didn't want second hand (out of warranty) for the reasons above and the VW comes with warranty, service package, my wife will be comfortable driving it and to top it off I think it looks bl00dy marvellous. Yes I could have got a basic saloon/4x4 now and then a Camaro later in the year / early next year but hey, I'm impatient!

I would love a V8 again - and it might be in a year (or sooner if management approval can be obtained) I'll be on the lookout for an older V8 coupe like a Mustang 4.6 or something. We shall see...

A fine choice. The new 7R is an absolute weapon and a far nicer drive than a Camaro or Challenger. I've driven the Challenger SRT8 and while it sounds absolutely lovely, it handles like a pig and has a dreadful interior.

All you need now is a simple stage 1 remap!

Finally managed to get some pictures uploaded of the Golf. This was just after I collected it from VW.

Just need to find some proper roads now

Cheers guys, really pleased with it so far. The wheels are ace, and despite being 19s the ride is actually pretty good.

mcbook - they still do the limited option pre-specced cars. So you do miss out on a few gadgets from the European spec cars. Basic is cloth seats, 18s, mid spec (mine) is leather, sunroof, Pretoria alloys, and top spec adds sat nav. All have DSG and 5 doors.

Some of the missing things are start/stop, the emergency braking thing, adaptive cruise and adaptive suspension/steering - so there's none of this 'normal', 'comfort', 'sport', 'mental' settings to faff about with. I think they've probably got the balance about right between spec and price so I don't feel hard done by biggrin

Cheers for the roads advice, once it's cooled down a bit I'll take time to plan a little road trip.

Tom, was that you I spotted driving in the Greens early this morning?
It might have been - not really sure where the Greens is!

I was heading towards the Marina from the Montgomerie end of Springs this morning so I think that's the same general area?

Not far off. The car looked like it needed a good wash.

Great looking motor.
Yes it does. It's a bit embarrassing. I'm in that awkward stage of not trusting anyone else to clean it yet and not having the time to do it myself!

Cheers smile
