Dunlop Porsche Cup - new series from the CSCC
Discussion
What are peoples thoughts on the new Porsche Series being set up to run under the Classic Sports Car Club?
For those that didnt know about it some more info here:
Dunlop Production Cup for Porsche is intended to be a series of races for production-based Porsche cars, and in order to keep costs to a minimum, very few modifications will be allowed. With the exception of safety equipment, the cars should remain standard in profile and construction. A Dunlop DZ03G control tyre must be used by all competitors. Standard horsepower for the model raced should remain as near to production power as possible.
Race Programme
Dunlop Production Cup for Porsche will be contested over 8 rounds at the following UK venues, plus Spa Francorchamps:
- Snetterton (300) - 12th/13th April
- Silverstone (National) - 10th/11th May
- Brands Hatch (Indy) - 31st May/1st June
- Spa Francorchamps (Inter-series) - 27th/28th/29th June
- Castle Combe - 12th/13th July
- Anglesey (Coastal) - 2nd/3rd August
- Donington Park - 30th/31st August
- Oulton Park (International) - 20th or 27th September
- Snetterton (200) - 18th/19th October
All the UK race weekends will be a double-header format of 1 x 20 minutes qualifying with 2 x 20 minute races, all on one day. There are no pit stops and no success penalties will be applied in subsequent races.
At Spa Francorchamps competitors will be invited to participate in 2 x 30 minute Inter-series races, which form part of the Spa Summer Classic programme.

Sorry I should have phrased that as running with the CSCC.
Can only be a good thing with lots of eligible Porsches already running in Future & Modern Classics. Should be interesting to see how many drivers it attracts as it should be considerably cheaper to run in than the Porsche Club & PDA Championships.

I'am supposed to be getting the latest regs sent to me on Monday but the class structure and weights should be:
Class 1 cars 996 Carrera 2 (3.4) 1350 Kg
Cayman S (3.4) 1320 Kg
993 (3.6) 1300 Kg
Boxster ‘S’ 1999-2002 1270 Kg
2003-2004 1280 Kg
2005-2007 1310 Kg
2007-2009 1380 Kg
928 GTS (5.4) 1450 Kg
Class 2 cars 968 and Boxster (2.7) 1250 Kg
964 (3.6) 1320 Kg
Boxster (2.5) 1210 Kg
Class 3 cars 944 S2 and 911 (3.2) Carrera 1150 Kg
911 SC 1100 Kg
I'll post the full regs on Monday. From what I'am being told its being officially launched at the Autosport Show £150 registration fee, entry fees similar to CSCC rates and tyres well under a grand a set (and they should last a good few meetings).

I prefer one day events myself, that was one of the things that attracted me to Porsche Club racing last season. Most of the races were on a Saturday, no hotel bills and kept the misses happy as we still had Sunday free. Its the £1100 for a set of tyres that you need to replace for every meeting to be competitive that's going to put me of for 2014.
For almost the same cost of the Porsche Club entry fees I could do the Modern Classics race on the same day as well.

I've been told that Chris Clark is going to be the series co-ordinator and there should be a website up soon with the full regs but anyone interested in the mean time should email Kevin or Alex at emcmotorsport@btconnect.com.
I don't think they're allowing plastic side windows & screens though which might rule out quite a few of the future / modern classics drivers. GRP panels are allowed though.

I spoke to Chris Clarke yesterday about the series and pleaded the case for allowing plastic windows. I think in the first year at least some allowances should be made to make it as easy as possible for cars currently running in other championships to be eligible.
If a lot of the Future / Modern Classics cars are too light it should just be a simple matter of adding ballast rather than changing tailgates etc.
Personally if I do race in it, I would like to do Modern Classics as well to maximise my racing timetable permitting of course.

We run our Boxster S on slicks in the Porsche Club Championship this year without any accusump system. We dont even have the extended sump just the 996 oe motorsport sump with modified baffles and that was on a 50,000 road engine. It never missed a beat all season, maybe we were just lucky though
I'am sure slicks must put more strain on the car but apart from some braking issues, nothing actually broke.

That's interesting - I just didn't want to risk it and the accusump gives added protection in other areas as well. Brakes, assume that was just the amount of wear the slicks generated ?
If I'd spent £££££'s on my engine I'd probably invest in an accusump as well but if I blow this one up its not the end of the world and I could always stick a second hand road engine in. The brake problems we were having were definitely down to the slicks. Last year on the Mitchelins we run EBC, this year we destroyed a set of EBC's in 8 laps and even Mintex pads didn't last much longer. we finally settled on Pagids but they only lasted 1-2 race meetings and at £250 a set its a bit much!KevThePorsche said:
Steve has never had a problem with his brakes because he doesn't use them, he just goes in rally style!
That would be all them years of driving 924's on remoulds with no brakes!!!!Nice to see you on here Kevin, good move on allowing plastic side windows especially now the Porsche Club are allowing them. Hope you have a good xmas and new year and we'll see you at the Autosport show where we'll be signing up. Could do with some tyres soon so we can get out testing early in the new year.

We'll be in it son with one of the Boxsters or the 968.
I thought you were doing Porsche Club? Or are you gonna have a go at both ?43SteveC said:
Well that's the registrations sent in I just hope I'am not on my own !!!
Hopefully not, last week they had at least 6 signed up drivers with many more to come in. Anyone else on here competing and what in?

Busy busy! You're gonna wear your new cars out! I might turn out for a few Porsche Club rounds as well if I can get the budget together.

Yes we're doing both of them…plus a couple of Britcars or Ben might forget how to drive!
