Hello ,

I am a member of Bristol Motor Club. The club is mulling over having an MX5 only class at the various sprint events they do next year. They are also mulling over an mx5 only championship across various events such as hilll climbs, sprint and autosolos.

The sprints are

21st March at Castle Combe (1.75 laps) Organised by Bristol Motor Club

25th July at Castle Combe (0.75 laps).Organised by Bristol Motor Club

Llandow in May , the date isn't set. Organised by Bristol Motor Club and Bristol Pegasus Motor club.

the chamopionship idea is currently just an idea.

they are probably going to stick to roadgoing rules but it should , here is a quote from my mate on the committee

"We're not sure where the line will be for modifications - suggestions gratefully received. I'd like to think it'll simply be the same as Roadgoing as this just accomodates the popular cars that fall unfortunately on our class structure. However, if this is an entry level class, then limited modifications seems sensible. The down side of that means not all cars will be eligible as most are modified in some manner. There's no plans to separate 1600cc and 1800cc cars - the 1600cc cars can go in either the MX5 class or the main <1800cc class"

This is all the info I have at the mo, expressions of interest and suggestions greatly received , the more we get the more likely it will happen.

Thanks. The ducktail does nothing and was bought purely for looks, the splitter however does a good job of cooling the brakes and increases stability above 80mph. Not sure I'd be hitting 80 on a sprint though!
You would be hitting well over 80mph at the great western sprint as it is 1.875 laps of castle coombe so your second lap before braking for quarry you would be over 80mph by quite a lot

:-)

Nice looking car BTW

OP, MX5 owners have developed their own championship in Scotland which runs alongside the national sprint and hillclimb championships.

Some details here.

It's been very successful and very popular.

Due to lots of interest Brisotl Motor Club are now doing a multi discipline challenge involving sprints and autosolo.

If you registered through the webform you should have received the regs, if not check it out here

"http://www.bristolmc.org.uk/championships.htm#MX5 champ"

To take part simply join the cluib and enter a qualifiing event , you will automatically join the challenge.

I think we had over 25 expressions of interest so should be good.

so first round done, I managed 4th, was hoping for better, but the rain and a cone dropped me down (good practice for excuses though !).

here are some photos of the day which was great overall even though some teething problems with the venue caused a bit of a delay leading to 9 runs instead of 12.

Dave,

ride height raised 10mm at the rear when I got the alignment done, so the dampers actually work now !

cheers

James
