I need a set of wet tyres for this season and my first choice was the R1R's but as they have stopped producing them and nobody has stock in my size I am a bit stuck.

I'm running R88R in damp/wet (no standing water) as they have a wet rating of E where as the Nankang NS2R has a wet rating of B.

Has anyone had experience of the Nankang NS2R in the wet (standing water)? Any thoughts please as I need to try to get something before this weekend.

@ stevieturbo, they are on the MSA Tyre list so can be used.

@ Tommo, Thanks for that. If the reply is to be believed then the 100 rate tyre would be the one to go for. Not sure I can get any before Snet this weekend though.

Mr lol1

which of the cars in the pic you put up is yours? I'm assuming the left one with the M3 bumper as the areo package on the right one puts it into NM hence Im in NM with the supertouring front splitter and rear wing.

An whats the spec 3.0, 3.2 etc?

I'm not racing till brands unfortunatly, but i'll be coming down to SStone as a spectator.
You are correct the one on the left and its a 3.2. Still managed to beat the other car twice at the last round as well. smile

I might have found a set of 100 compound close to me so could possibly have them for Sunday if I need them.

Pop over and see us at Snet if your there on the Sunday.

Let me know how u get on with the 100 compound in the wet, if it rains. what tyres have u used in the past wet & dry on track?

Wont be up at Snett over the weekend, I've spent the last 2 weekends at Silverstone, and SWMBO list of things for me to do nolonger has racing at the top of it weeping
On my old M3 it was only Dunlop slicks and wets. Have tried the old R888 a few seasons ago which I really liked and have the new R888R for this season as a dry/damp tyre.

The only other track/road tyre I have used is the Hankook V12 when I was racing in the MX5 series and I wasn't particularly keen on them in the wet to be honest.

Link to the on-board from Easter weekends 2nd race and only the 1st weekend I've set foot in an M3 in 6 years. I was class C and won the class overall and came 5th overall in the Race.

Nice vid, those escorts a pretty quick!! Although the yellow one had a mirror failure in lap 1, turn 2! Is this your 1st season in CSCC? Its my first season, i did 1 in the taster class last year and really liked it.
Yes the class A cars are mega quick. One of them was in the 49 secs around Brands that weekend.

I did a few races with a mate of mine back in 2014 where I shared his BMW 5 series 3.5 (he's also in Modern classic with his car this year). I really like the idea of 40 min races and being class A which gives me a chance of overall win as opposed to class win. Got to get to grips with the M3 and tyres first though as at Brands I was struggling to match the times from 6 years ago and I know for a fact that I am no where near as confidant in it as I used to be with my old one. Wont take long though to get back in the groove.

The NS-2R in the competition compound is about as decent a compromise as you are going to get to go from wet to dry conditions (or the other way around) It works well on light cars but heavy cars can require a lot of steering input.

The issue you have however is that from the 1st April both the 120 and 100/80 compounds are deleted unless for championship purposes. In the case of the 225 45 17 COMP there are 18 left in stock as I write this.
So you have to prove you are in a championship to buy them? or do you have to go through a championship supplier?
I bought mine from a standard tyre shop. Told him what I wanted, he phoned Nankang and I had them the next day.

We have used both the 180 and 100 compound tyres on a 1,000kg saloon car, in both wet and dry conditions. The 180's are very, very durable and possibly not the ideal tyre in the wet as they do take some time to get heat into. Although we found them very predictable. We would highly recommend the 100 compound tyre for the wet and dry. The new AR-1 is proving to be an extremely good dry tyre and we will provide feedback against a Dunlop Direzza DZ03 soon.

Tom
Still not used my 100 compound but its good to hear some positive feed back.

I do like the look of the AR-1 and very well priced. Does it come in different compound?

I Phoned Nankang UK and asked if they had stock, which he did and they sent them out to the garage.

I only used the Nankang once in the wet at Snetterton last season and they were awful.

Has anyone had any experience of the R888R from last season in the wet?

Which compound? Did you scrub them in, in the dry? Or fresh boots onto a wet track? Did you have the right pressures?

If you can discount all of the above then maybe you are expecting too much of a tyre in the wet?
It was their 100 compound and I had scrubbed them in on a dry track. I cant remember the tyre pressure at the moment but as it was the first time I had used them in the damp/wet it was a bit hit and miss I guess.

Was thinking of selling them and trying something else.

Fair one, 180 compound is what we use, they clear water alot better owing to a stiffer tread!
What tyre pressures did you use on them?

No cold, it's seems odd I know but trust me its correct, well at least it is for the 180 compound and car we are using (1150kg tin top) which is harder than the 100 you are using. What did you start the 100 at?
I will have a look later but from memory around 27-28 in a tintop around the same weight.

What size? I have a spare set of 195/50/15's you can try on the 180 compound if you like? I would try again at the higher pressures. I know of one guy that basically balloons them in the wet.. I don't as i find they go off too quick that way but he swears by it, although haven driven on them like that the initial 10 minute bite is better, he is also twice as fast as me so that helps lol!
Thanks for the offer but I'm on 235/40/17. Maybe I will give them another go at higher pressure then although I am tempted to sell them and buy some Toyo R1R's.
