I read something at the weekend saying that you can apply for a non race National B license for Hillclimbing and that it's just £33 and a medical. Apparently by doing events you can get signatures to upgrade it like you do when you go from a National B race to a National A.

Is this correct?

If so, that suggests that you could do this and start competing in hillclimbing straight away, get a race license after a season and never actually take an ARDS test.

What gives?

OK cheers guys. What's the drill then with starting out if your car is a 3.2 litre M3 Evo? Easier to just go and get an ARDS test done and get a full Nat B?

Depends what you want to do?

If you go get a Race Nat B, and you only hillclimb there is no way to get to a race National A without competing in 6 circuit races. And therefore being able to compete in a Nat A hillclimb events.

I would get the Non race Nat B. See if you like it and go from there.
We (me and the Mrs) want to try hillclimbing first as a bit of a taste of competitive motorsport before moving onto circuit racing. Additionally, we could start taking part in the road going production class before the expense of the roll cage, fire extinguishers etc. are forked out, meaning getting into something sooner.
