Don't they have to be fitted by the helmet manufacturer?
I have a Bell ultra helmet and the Bell website says:

They come with a pre-drilled shell to allow correct retro-fitting of the post clips by approved Hans® technicians

Demon Tweeks and GPR dont seem to know if they can or can't.

The other problem is that the MSA say that it has to have the correct FIA sticker on it.

I thought that up to and including last year they were only approved by the FIA if fitted at the time of manufacture. But I also understood this year the rules had changed and they could be fitted by approved technicians.

Does the blue book shed any light on it?
All the blue book says is

It is Permitted to incorporate an FIA-approved Hans
Device fitted in accordance with FIA regulations.

Trying to find the FIA reg that covers this is like trying to find a needle in a haystack.

Also if they where only approved by the FIA if fitted at the time of manufacture why on earth do they sell helmets with the holes pre drilled for hans posts.
Bell want something in the region of £200-£250 to fit the hans posts which I think is a liberty. If the FIA want to make racing safer then they should make it easier for the club racer to be able to get these fitted easily and at a fair cost imo.

If your regs dont require the use of HANS then you could drill and fit yourself, just dont take the HANS to scrutineering.
But the helmet is scruitineered and if it dose not have the right sticker on for Hans post fitment they wont let you use it

I have just received an email from Phoenix (Arai importer)as the FIA Sticker on the back of my GP5 isn't straight and i'm getting it painted they told me the FIA sticker must be in place as it's all to do with the Hans post if it's not on no good for racing.
Talked to the MSA and they say that if it is not up to FIA spec which includes a sticker to say it has been fitted by an authorised fitter then the helmet cannot be used.

The lid is already pre drilled. I just need to find somewere to get the hans post fitted as I am reluctant to spend a fortune sending it back to Bell

Just talked to technical at the MSA regarding this and they say:

An approved fitter (ie stand 21) can retro fit to a pre drilled helmet and apply the sticker. Without the correct sticker the helmet will not be allowed to be used.

Funny that because when I talked to stand 21 they seemed to think they could put the FIA sticker on if they did my helmet. Give them a call at Brands and talk to Andrew as he is really helpful.
