Hans post fitment

Don't they have to be fitted by the helmet manufacturer?
I have a Bell ultra helmet and the Bell website says:They come with a pre-drilled shell to allow correct retro-fitting of the post clips by approved Hans® technicians
Demon Tweeks and GPR dont seem to know if they can or can't.
The other problem is that the MSA say that it has to have the correct FIA sticker on it.

I thought that up to and including last year they were only approved by the FIA if fitted at the time of manufacture. But I also understood this year the rules had changed and they could be fitted by approved technicians.
Does the blue book shed any light on it?

It is Permitted to incorporate an FIA-approved Hans
Device fitted in accordance with FIA regulations.
Trying to find the FIA reg that covers this is like trying to find a needle in a haystack.
Also if they where only approved by the FIA if fitted at the time of manufacture why on earth do they sell helmets with the holes pre drilled for hans posts.
Bell want something in the region of £200-£250 to fit the hans posts which I think is a liberty. If the FIA want to make racing safer then they should make it easier for the club racer to be able to get these fitted easily and at a fair cost imo.

I have just received an email from Phoenix (Arai importer)as the FIA Sticker on the back of my GP5 isn't straight and i'm getting it painted they told me the FIA sticker must be in place as it's all to do with the Hans post if it's not on no good for racing.
Talked to the MSA and they say that if it is not up to FIA spec which includes a sticker to say it has been fitted by an authorised fitter then the helmet cannot be used.Gassing Station | UK Club Motorsport | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
