Moving my Can-Am

I will be leaving Locarno and my home in the coming months. The Ultima is following also.
A question to fellow owners and builders. As the Can-Am is currently on its dolly, it has wheels but no tyres, so that excludes wheeling the rolling chassis around.
I was thinking of moving the lot in one go, dolly included, but it needs to be transported in a big van or small lorry with a hoist to lift and lift off the vehicle. As the body pre-fit has not yet been done (I'm doing it myself), I was thinking of mounting loosely all the bodywork onto the chassis to facilitate the transport and reduce possible damages
Is this feasible or need I look into other ways of doing things?

Where are you moving?
We are moving to Uvrier (VS). The workshop and garage is big and sufficient for all my machinery. We will be able to exchange progress reports with less distance to travel. Where are you moving?
You could use wood (don't laugh).
Just get a sheet of 20mm ply wood and cut in half and glue the two halves together. Then cut out 4 circles, drill centre and bolt holes and you have a set of wheels you can move the chassis on.
They never get a puncture too...

Hi Dan,
Area looks spectacular - gad I wish I was there!
Any reason for the move? ...or was it all to do with bigger workshop? Jeez, how did you manage to get THAT past the boss?
I also concur with Steve and storer.. I used 'wooden wheels' as well! In fact in my case, the factory kindly sent them down to me!
I am looking forward (not) to an op on my knee in a couple of weeks.. apparently my mis-spent youf has caught up with me (contact sports almost guarantee joint probs i8n later years - if only I had known ...or listened to my betters!) , so will be hopping around on crutches over xmas!
Good luck... we keep threatening it, but maybe we will finally meet some day!

Yes Keith, the area is great with dry, sunny, warm weather and little overall rain, so much more enjoyable than south of the Alps. Local food and wines are great and people enjoy living. Locarno remains within easy reach, so a quick pop down for a meal and meet up with friends remains something which can be done with a couple of hours to spend. There is an airport close by in Sion. Don't know what flights exist in or out, but the military are moving out and commercial flights should be developed. Also for those into winter sports, there's plenty to do with just 1/2h driving to get there. Unfortunately I also have a "wobbly" knee, so skiing is out since a number of years now Area looks spectacular - gad I wish I was there!

The decision to move was jointly taken with Madame as she wants to remain closer to family and I with other Ultima builders too. I also concur as I will be back in a french speaking area. and things will be cheaper for us, so finishing the Can-Am remains in the books. Guess it's a win win situation overall.

Paul and others having used the wooden "chariot" wheels, what size diameter is recommended? I guess the diameter needs to be sufficient to enable the chassis to be above the ground level.Just get a sheet of 20mm ply wood and cut in half and glue the two halves together. I ´m looking forward doing some nice drive, black and white, in the mountains in the region! We should set 2016 as the objective. I have been already invited to do the Grand-Saint-Bernard pass opening in Mai 2015, it might be more 2016 now, but two Ultimas would be great.

True, I should have said builder as I haven't heard of anyone else in the region, not unless someone pops out of the woods. Who knows, as it seems Ultima owners are sometimes very hush hush people until you get to know them.
I would love to do some black and white drives. That would certainly open plenty of eyes here I imagine...
After Paul's suggestion of making a set of wooden wheels, I had a closer look yesterday at the hubs and callipers. I can't figure out how to get some "chariot" wheels to clear the brake callipers without either removing them temporarily, or cut the inner side of the wheel without removing too much structural strength. Any recommendations?
