I would like to make the windows in my GTR removable. I've seem some of the other removable window solutions implemented by other members here, but they appear to be beyond my technical expertise. In my view, the most straight forward way I can see to do this is to switch the mounting method for the windows from adhesive to counter-drilled black screws. However, I've been told that the process of removing existing windows that have been adhesively sealed to the doors results in deformed windows. Is this true? Is there any way to remove the existing windows without deforming/destroying them? Thanks in advance!

Sorry to bump this topic again, but I'm about to begin this project and just wanted to see if anyone else had any additional ideas about the best way to remove the GTR windows. Thanks!

A set of side windows are £80 so they're not dear.

As for getting them out, it's a pain but if you've got a new set then you won't really care.

Depending on how old the installation is you may be able to push them out as sealant deteriorates after time.

You can use the wire/fishing line method, but have some help, but you'll likely bugger the window and perhaps damage gel coat.

Once the window is out you then have to scrape off the sealant which WILL bugger the gel coat.

Good luck.

Only use clearner for polycarbonate windows as if use normal glass cleaner (they usually have ammonia in them) they will go clouding.
Just to be clear, assuming I can remove the windows without damaging the gel coat, you believe that the process of removing the remaining sealant from the gel coat will cause further damage? Or can this be avoided?

Yeah, I'm planning on replacing the windows no matter what; I'm just looking for the best way of removing the windows without damaging the gel coat.
